Haha.
That's the most obscure rifle/round I own. I'm out.
(I have a Marlin 62 Levermatic)

Most people I talk to haven't even heard of a .256

Here is a little more obscure round.

What is the one labled "1" in the picture??

For perspective, #3 is a 8MM Lebel case.

I'll give a little clue. With the exception of about .010" rim diameter, it is both a foreign military caliber, and a US commercial sporting caliber. They are the SAME. In fact, it was THE cartridge that dominated Creedmoor Long Range shooting in the 1870's.

.45-100 sharps? .44-90 sharps? gah this is bugging me! the Americans kicked butt with .44-90 sharps in 1874, but it isnt an international military cartridge that I am aware.

Disregard that last.

Doing my measurements and conversions it appears to be .40cal roughly. Am I on the right course?

11x60mm Mauser? Thats my best (current) guess.

Heres my math thus far, based on measurements of my screen...haha. Used the known Lebel dimensions as a base:

11mm Lebel onscreen = 8mm Lebel actual length
1.375mm - 1mm actual ratio
15mm / 1.375 = 10.9mm actual / .43-.44 cal

length:

8mm Lebel length: 55mm onscreen - 50mm actual
1.1mm - 1mm actual ratio
65mm onscreen / 1.1 = 60mm actual

cartritge parameters: 10.9mm-11mm diameter (.43 to .44cal) x 60mm length cartridge

Yup. I said it was an easy one. 6.5x53R. The earlier, rimmed version of the 6.5x54 M-S cartridge.
