I have a saiga in 5.45 that i am selling for 550 that i cant get rid of. I often get messages that people can get them online for 400 and in some cases even in the store. but if i were to convert it myself i can get 700 easy. i dont like the coversion because then you need a bullet button and i feel that the trigger it has is ok. keep in mind that a saiga is made in russia and is in my opinion built very tuff and well. On the other hand people go to turners and fork over 670 bucks on a used romanian piece of crap (in my honest opinion) I dont get it! is the pistol grip so important to noobs or is it just a cool factor. :)

dont mean to offend any ones battle riffle or any thing i know some of you can be very sensitive over internet talk. oh and sorry for spelling and grammer i can care less at this hour

Maybe they think your asking too much?

I actually think more people would rather convert it themselves. That way the get to pick the parts and make it theirs. I'm that way.

I don't think it's the pistol grip that's giving it the add on value to the gun, its the conversion itself. Mainly because not everyone wants to, or is able to do the conversion. So therefore they would rather pay a little bit more, and have the finished product they desire-without the work involved.

Also, Saigas are going for about $300-350 online brand new. I don't think you'll be getting $550, unless you throw in a good amount of mags, or ammo.

Best of luck on the sale.

asking $550 for used Saiga is like asking $650 for Used Glock 17 gen3

From an AK lovers perspective the saigas down fall is that you have to use saiga mags. A wasr or any other AK variant will take almost any AK mag

What did the WASR have to do with anything in this post...?

All I got was I have a sagia I can't sell for $550... I can convert it and sell for $700... I hate the BB and WASRs suck...

Am I missing something?

Yes, 5.45 saiga will accept any standard ak74 mags, but without bullet guide, last round of magazine will have FTF problem.

Convert it and go featureless with a Monsterman or Solar Tactical grip. Then no BB required.

I don't like the ergonomics of my stock Saiga at all. I hate it, actually. One of these days I've got to get around to converting it. The finish on it is a little more "refined" than my WASR, but they're not amazingly different.

Where are you getting your prices from? Brand new saigas are selling at Turners for $499 and WASR 10s were on sale earlier this month for $499... $599 when not on sale. Like another poster said, there are sub $400 saigas brand new out there as well if you look hard enough.

OP Ill give you the benefit of doubt and assume you overpaid for your saiga. But no one will pay that much right now for a used unconverted one. It's irrelevant how much you paid you should ask Fair market Value which for a Used Saiga is 350 or so If you Convert it You might get 550. Or you might wait closer to the Election Those always drive the price way up.

I sold my used (only shot 300 rounds through it) converted 5.56 chambered Saiga, with black synthetic ak74 furniture for $550, was that a good deal?

Do Turner's do shipping? I live in far Norcal and there isn't a Turner's here, just gun shops that over price their inventory :(

My 5.45 saiga, with plum mags and 300 less rounds would like to have a word with your assumptions.

It may work without one, but the original design calls for one.You should install one. its $20 part that prevents bullet setback from hitting the barrel shoulder and last round jams.

Don't forget about the price of a front end conversion. On a standard Saiga you will add another $100 something to get the front end looking AKish. Add another $125 and up for the back end, bullet button and other accessories and you can easily spend over $700 on a fully converted Saiga. Now what price they bring in the used market is anyone's guess.

Wouldn't that trigger the 922r if the Saiga is not converted?

Also John, if you really just want to get your best dollar for your gun and really want it gone you need to start slowly lowering your price a little at a time until the price is agreeable with a buyer. I'd recommend bumping your ad after 5pm so the actual working stiffs with cash to spend can see it before its swallowed into the sea that is the Calguns marketplace.

Perhaps one of the reasons why you are having a hard time selling your Saiga for $500.00 is because Riflegear has new ones for $419.00 ?

You're unlikely to get $700 "easy" for an at home Saiga conversion, and $550 is a pretty high price even for a 5.45 BNIB.

Personally, I prefer WASRs over converted Saigas. I can easily fix whatever's wrong with a WASR. A Saiga however has an extra hole or two drilled for the crappy trigger linkage, which you can either leave on like warts or spend time trying to weld over.

And for featureless AK usage, I just leave the grip off entirely. I find that's about the same as a monsterman or Solar grip.

You're comparing a 5.45 to an x39? For one thing 5.45 rifles aren't in much demand because of the lack of range safe ammo. Secondly, there's more demand for Aks in x39 as opposed to 5.45.

You can figure the economics of that from there.

You can tell who actually read this post vs just responding to the title.

The OP has a Saiga, he is not asking if he should get a Saiga or WASR.

Like others have rightfully said, you are asking more for a used 5.45 Saiga than it is for a new one.

The Tapco G2 trigger is so vastly better than the stock Saiga sporter one, it alone is reason enough to convert the gun. No people aren't converting Saigas because "the pistol grip so important to noobs ... is it just a cool factor," they convert it back to its originally designed, superior form.

Source: Bought a Saiga IZ 340 in 5.45x39, shot it prior to converting it, after converting it.

The IZ 340 was $450 brand new shipped. It has the front-end conversion already done. Asking $550 for an IZ 340 is way overpriced, even if it were new. If you are selling an IZ240 (sporter front handguard) that overpricing is even more dramatic.

I am going to guess this is a troll post though, judging by your horrible grasp of the English language.

I bought the IZ 132 in 7.62x39 from rifle gear when they had it for $419. Its fun to shoot and the ammo is cheap. I handled a WASR at turners and did not like the way it felt, it also felt it was even more cheaply made than the saiga. I dont plan to convert mine as I like the dropping magazines with my finger. Futhermore I grew up shooting a mini 14 so I am used to the featureless configuration. Though I think that if one wants an evil looking ak-47 type rifle a wasr is a great choice as it is cheap and if one does not like it they can sell it for a small loss or none as it is a very popular rifle.
