Finally got one :

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m539/jwri1967/IMG_1651.jpg

First impressions so far without firing the weapon:

1. It's light but no where near my KISS AR
2. Very well balanced
3. With the balance, it seems very maneuerable
4. Barrel needs to be chopped
5. Front rail is a little short for my shooting style
6. Love the bolt hold open lay out
7. Stock is ugly as hell, but very comfortable

Going to the range this Saturday and can't wait to see how it performs aganist my AR.

Congrats on the scar...if you want to look at getting a longer rail. Might want to look at the PWS SRX rail, gives you an additional 5 inches of rail space .

Very nice! Why do you say that the barrel needs to be chopped?

Very nice! Congrats! If you really like the balance of it then I wouldn't consider chopping the barrel off. Have fun with it at the range!

Get one of these and it will solve your handguard and likely the barrel aesthetics issue.

You probably want a lighter foregrip too. If weight is a concern, not sure why you chose one of the heavier offerings on the market.

Nice! Where do you plan on shooting it? I'm thinking of a range trip this weekend myself..

Thanks for the suggestions on the rails, but I heard they make it front heavy. Something I'm trying to avoid.

Regarding the barrel, I'm either thinking of chopping it or getting a factory 14" and adding a 2" brake or FH. The only thing stopping me from getting the factory barrel is that they are not out yet and they are reported to cost around $1,200.

Burro canyon is the only range that doesn't give me grief on my black rifles.

What do you suggest? The TD stubby is barely 2 or 3 ounces. It's lighter than the Magpuls.

You'll need one longer than that...remember how much of the barrel will be under the brake/FH ;)

Burro canyon is the only range that doesn't give me grief on my black rifles.

Never an issue for me at Angeles...heck, easily 85% of the people there on a given day are shooting black rifles (excluding the pistol side).

Make sure you modify those pmags before you use them in that scar

Theres also an aftermarket SCAR receiver that can accept Pmags. Or you can just wait a month or two when Magpul finally comes out with the M3s that fit.

For the 7.62/17S yes, but the OP has a 5.56/16S.

For PMAGs, they will run unmodified, but it will cause the gun to beat itself up (this is true for more than just the SCAR, actually). 10 seconds with a Dremel will cure the problem though.

There's an M3 coming out?

I'm loading up on my GI mags for my first outing with the SCAR. I read that the GI mags have no problems that the P-mags have.

Yeah, new pmags are due out that are STANAG spec compliant, they'll work in SCAR, HK, S80, and all the other platforms that the regular pmag won't.

Magpul said they'd be out fall of 2012, so probably sometime next xmas.

Very easy to modify the pmags, and well worth the time.

On a side note, my brother bought a MiAd grip for his scar and it barely fits and looks like crap, anyone know why?

starsnuffer

You have to shave off some of the mounting point on the receiver to get the grip to fit correctly. It's easy and a harmless process, but will void your warranty.

I just modified my MIAD instead of the receiver. Very easy.

Yeah i just took a dremel to my grip as well cause if something goes wrong, those grips are easier to replace. I mean you can replace your scar lower for $55 bucks if you screw it up but why pay $55 when you could pay $30.

jpm804

I just use the tango down BG17 grip which requires no modification..

They also sell an ERGO scar grip that needs no modification also to fit.

You don't need to chop the barrel.
just dress it up.

That's too bad that you got the less accurate version. :D

(For those that don't know, there's a running joke on FN Forums that the FDE version is more accurate than the black.)

MrPlink

FDE is def more accurate. More reliable and lighter too :p

Short range report.

Sight in:

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m539/jwri1967/20121013_150004.jpg

Gun was pretty much dialed in from factory.

A couple mags:

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m539/jwri1967/20121013_150018.jpg

She's definitely a tack driver.

Overall impressions:

1. Nice firing pulse that is very smooth.
2. Follow up shots were very quick. The brake did it's job.
3. Ate everything I fed her. From surplus to Wolf to Lake City. Not a single FTF.
4. Great balance for a large gun.
5. The stock, although ugly a hell, fit me like a glove. It felt very comfortable.

Regarding shooting Wolf (if it was steel)...I remember reading something a while back over at FNForum.net that stated FN will void your warranty if shoot steel ammo out of it. Of course you'd probably first need to admit to shooting steel and you'd need to be in a situation where you need repairs.

Again, don't shoot the messenger. Perhaps someone could state otherwise.

Nice SCAR!! I love mine as well.

Sick rifle! What distance were those targets? I take it you used irons on the first target since you said it was dialed in from the factory.

I'm thinking of getting this to use with one of my M4 stocks:

Vltor also has an aftermarket stock, but I think it's just as ugly as the stock one.

My ffl thinks it's not going to be out till December. And I hope it's lower than the $169 asking price. that seems a lot for an adapter.

25 and 50 meters offhand. I don't believe in bench as in the real world there's no bench around when you need one. :p

Nope, that's the price. They are taking pre-purchases now. The nice lady said they will be out at the end of the month or early next.

I've been kinda waiting for this stock adaptor also since they announced it, but after shooting with the scar for abit now. I dont mind the stock "stock" on it anymore...

Like you mentioned in your comments, it fit you like a glove. Some people knock the stock it comes with but I think it does its job ( length of pull adjustments and built in check riser) and is lightweight which goes with one of the positives I think about the scar in that its ligthweight.

Was the nice lady from Vltor? Just asking as my dealer thinks he can sell it for 15-20 less depending on mark up.
