Hello,

I am thinking of picking up a stripped AR lower for a rifle build. Is buying a stripped lower like buying a normal long gun or is it like buying a handgun (registration, safety certificate ect.)?

And what tools are required to assemble the LPK and the lower?

Buying a stripped lower is like buying a long gun ( no 1 in 30 rule , no HSC needed, no registration). Just need your CA DL with current address.

For putting together the LPK.. at minimum punch and hammer or clamp pliers.

You would be buying a "non-concealable firearm" under state law. So, it is not subject to registration at this time.

There is an OLL assembly guide at the top of this forum page.

What everyone above me said plus you need an AR multi-tool wrench to be able to tighten the castle nut for the buffer tube.

Welcome to the club brother. I've built (assembled for the grumpy gunsmiths out there) so many I've lost count. Lots of fun. Almost as much fun as shooting them.
