I'm planning on putting a striped lower in jail this weekend. I'm leaning towards a spikes lower. Can anyone recommend anything else to look at before going with a spikes? Other then the roll marks on the lower, are they not all the same?

Most lowers are the same. Except the billet ones which are a little nicer.

I would go with a spikes. Look at Mega also.

Thanks for the link. I just called a local shop and they have a spikes lower for $99 + tax and dros. Sounds like a good price

riflegears lowers are nice too.

x2, I bought one recently and was very happy with the quality and price. I believe they are made by Mega too.

Shouldn't need a build party to assemble a lower. (Are there lower build parties?)

Just look up the videos on youtube and follow along.

Building a lower is stupid simple… an hour of YouTube videos and you should be set.

Most lowers are the same, shop on price and retail convenience… I wouldn’t go out of your way just to get a stripped lower...

Mega generally cost a little more buy also have a great finish, tension screw for the upper if needed, and a gator grip / knurling on the front of the receiver. I really like Mega.

JD makes a great all around receiver if you can find one; I personally like the roll mark.

Spikes is fine too, great all around receiver, just like all the others.

Aero Precision is the only lower I can actually be seeing slightly cheaper in finishing/forging marks, but from a functionally standpoint it the same as the rest. Price is usually cheaper and still a good receiver.

Really at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. But sometimes a few extra bucks actually does buy you something more than a different roll mark.

I found a Mega lower $150 + tax and dros and spikes $100 + tax and dros. Both of them are local and in stock. Spend the extra $50 or not?

In that case I would probably go with the spikes... I don’t think the extra Mega offers are worth $50 more… I paid $109 for my Mega lower, and I felt the extras at that price were worth it, over the Aero selling for $89 at the time.

Another thing to consider... If you have any other long guns you want, it makes a lot more sense to add a lower to that purchase or even a second lower if even think you may own more than one AR (or even as a spare part).

DROS on cheap items kills the deal sometimes…

$150 for a mega lower sounds pricy... I thought they generally went for $100?

They're currently $109 at Riflegear.
