Im going to be reloading .308 for the first time and need to know what primers to buy. I bought the Lee hand primer and it says to use only winchester or CCI primers....Are these any good? Which ones do I need? Thanks!

Haven't used Winchester, but CCI work for me.

Large rifle primers is what you need.

BTW, if you haven't done so yet, you really need to get a reloading manual. Of the ones I have I like Lyman's the best, although there may be better ones out there.

What primers I use depends on the application.. I use either Federal Match primers or CCI BenchRest primers in my bolt guns.. for my semi autos, I use what ever I can get my greedy hands on.. I usually use either CCI or winchester for my rifle loads and pistol loads and CCI and Federal for my handgun stuff. I also use Federal for my M1 Carbine loads.. only because I got a smokin' deal on 5K of them for $50

Now for my service rifle match loads I only use CCI and for 600yds I only use CCI BR primers....

Both primers are fine, my personal preference is with CCI 200 for .308 loads.

I've used Federal Gold Match primers for my handloads which supposed to be the best and didn't find that much of a difference when compared to CCI primers, other than Federal primer cups are softer and seat more easily in my S&B brass. No problems seating Federal primers with Lee's hand primer tool either (it's a marketing ploy to warrant only their parent company primers), however I did switch to RCBS tool which is more expensive but gives better feel/leverage. The Lee's primer gave me horrible blisters.

First time I took my handloaded .308 to the range was a very apprehensive time indeed - most joyous time after the first triangular group :)

Just remember to add usual fee for hazardous material shipping :43: Usually, 30 bucks, which knocks it down a notch...

If I could only train a donkey to travel into TN and back

I shot WLRs for a long time and they made nice groups in my M1A Supermatch. Rem 9 1/2's shoot just a tad bit tighter, but not by much--something you'll only see over an average of several targets.

I think I paid $30+ for a brick. Works out to just over $3 for 100. I got them from the Stockade since I didn't feel like going to Angeles.

Good luck getting any Federal 210M or 215M primers. Federal's so backlogged filling .mil orders that they don't expect to ship any more to consumers until late 2008!

I got lucky this last week end in Vegas. Went into Center Mass Firearms in Henderson. Nice place They had 3 bricks of Federal 205s for $19.95 a 1000. To bad they are out now! Been trying to get some to try out for over 6 months.

Personally, I like picking up 5k-primer sleeves from Dustin at Ammobros. It's a lot cheaper than online, once you get done paying S&H+hazmat.

What are 5K sleeves going for?

I paid $105 a sleeve a month or so ago at Phillips in Covina.
