Very nice setup. Now all you have to do is get it zeroed and go shoot at a match.

Very nice setup! You're gonna love that 700p. My first gun was a 700p and I still love shooting it. Congrats and give us a range report when you get a chance.

Sweet new rig! Great choice of components. Make sure and break that barrel in correctly! I see a Dewey cleaning rod and chamber guide in your near future!

yeah already purchased, plan on doing the 1 shot and clean method for the first 3 rounds then going 3 rounds and cleaning for another 15 rounds then finishing off the rest of the box and cleaning when done

Congrats on your new acquisition (I just DROS'd a 700 SPS)... at the risk of starting a break-in debate, I'm curious as to the necessity of your intended routine...

I'm completely green to 308 (or any long range rifle) but today I was researching the topic of barrel break-in and came across this: http://www.6mmbr.com/gailmcmbreakin.html and: http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/Barrel_BreakIn.asp

While I'm sure those two sources aren't new to many on this forum - I wonder what the consensus here is?

Don't bother.
It's just a waste of time.

Here are the first 5 rounds through my 260:

Here are rounds 6-10:

No break-in voodoo, just clean the barrel before firing the first round.
Then clean it when you get home.
Do that for the first 2 range trips.
After that, don't clean the barrel until you notice the groups opening up.

Now the fun starts, reading everything you can on shooting and reading the wind, downloading ballistic calculators, looking into reloading, buying wind and weather meter, spotting scope, rangefinders, shooting clinics, matches, a .22 set up like your .308 for cheaper practice, it never really stops if you truly get bitten by the long range bug.

Nice setup. There's nothing like a nice bolt rifle.

I see you already went shooting, but there's no need to do the 1 shot and clean method. I shot maybe 50 rds in my R700 and didn't clean it until I got home and it shot great. With some good hand loads, you have a .5moa rifle with some practice.
