Did anyone else notice that the Military Issue Dragunov SVD is now on the C&R list? When do you guys think we will start seeing them imported again? There has to be a warehouse full of them in Ukraine or someplace.

You find an importer, you give me a call. We can giggle like little girls all the way to the store.

The Russian SVD has been on the C&R list for years. One can only hope we will see new ones imported someday.

Might want to look up the 1989 Import Ban and Russia's Voluntary Export Restraint VER Agreement on Arms and Ammunition to enter the World Trade Organization...

Unless there are piles and piles of them outside of Russia, we won't be getting them any time soon thanks to that agreement that Clinton signed in '96 with Russia.

Unless that magically goes away(which would be nice).

I bet Mitchell's Mausers will find a warehouse full of unissued Dragunov's and sell them for $20,000 each....

Was not aware of that And Extremly surprised by that Firearms being one of Russias bigest exports
However They do Export them to other countries so some enterprising company could go around that little setback by importing them from somewhere else

That ban is actually from '96, the '89 is slightly different. There are supposedly some dragunovs sitting in europe in a couple of countries where they aren't very popular, but then the importer has to deal with .922(r) unless they want to cut them up for parts kits(would be a waste).

Of course someone in the US could simply make the things here, but the lowered popularity by being an American made dragunov instead of Russian would lower the demand, lowering production, driving costs up... which would lower demand even further(as much as people would like say they'd buy them, I doubt many people would pay $2-3000 for a "phony"), and it's not like they'd end up getting any contracts for a government agency anywhere for the things to get the cost per unit lower.

You'd have a better shot of tigers getting imported again(still unlikely any time soon), that people could just convert here.

ah thanks for the info guys. I just thought that since it was a C&R it would be exempt from 922r just like the Yugo59/66 with the grenade launcher and night sights. I didnt fully understand the WTO and Russian thing before.

There's a guy trying to make them here, I think he'll have a prototype later this year. I hope it works out for him but honestly...for the money you will likely have to spend to get one an AR in 308 is about 10X the rifle.
