If not, why is this happening and how do I stop it?

Thanks.

Edit: Sorry I should have provided more info. It's a PSA upper with Spikes NiB bolt carrier. It looks like the bolt cam pin is/was hitting the receiver. It has about 2k rounds through it.

I'm no expert, but I think chipping is a nono... How old is the rifle and what brand is the upper?

i have never seen anything like that, to me it is more like damage than wear.

Is that where the fireing pin retaining pin sits when the bolt carrier is in the upper?

Thats where the cam pin rotates into when the bolt locks

And I agree This is not wear but more information is needed the brand of the upper

Post pics of your cam pin

Yea dents/missing chunksis not wearers damage..

And to answer your title.. Normal wear is the moving parts both lose their finish..

But scratches in one narrow spot or chips like you have is not normal. Or metal rails or something really wearing off that shows is also not normal.

But that could be an idiot mark from cleaning or maitinance or something..

But check your boot if it has wear as well you have an issue

This happens and I have seen it plenty of times, although my Larue and Noveske builds don't suffer from this. Tends to be common in lower quality uppers. Not to start a bash fest in here. But every friend I have seen this is owned a "lower tier" upper receiver. ALL of them had upgraded extractors but I never fully went into it but we shoot a lot and I felt that as long as they kept it lubed and monitored the progress of the damage/wear/excessive wear or whatever you want to call it you should be ok. If it get's worse I found call up PSA? Palmetto State Armory? If that is who it is I don't think they suffer from quality issues at least I haven't heard or read anything.

It does look excessive.

How well is the bolt lubed? Does it move and rotate freely when assembled?
