View Full Version : Magpul MOE fixed Rifle Stock - Now Shipping

For those interested, I just got a notice from midwayusa.com that the long awaited Magpul MOE fixed rifle stocks (fits Ar-15 or LR-308) are now in stock and shipping. These are supposed to be A1 length, take the Magpul enhanced buttpad upgrade, and have better storage and sling mounting options than the standard AR stock design. I'm looking forward to seeing how these line up with a solar tactical grip wrap for featureless builds.

Not a whole lot of pics floating around, but here's a slightly better one that at least shows it attached to a rifle. Looks a bit like a sleeker version of the UBR in the closed position to me.

Magpul mentioned on their FB page that the LOP is 13.25"
"The MOE rifle is about half way between an A1 and an A2 in length. Uses rifle buffer tube with no spacer."
Magpul's website has MSRP @ $69.95

Secondly, I love how Magpul integrated the storage compartment in the back end of the stock. I think it'll look sexy on a K.I.S.S. build with carry handle etc.

An important observation about this new stock is that the enhanced rubber butt-pad (optional) that fits on the carbine MOE stocks (as well as the ACS and UBR stocks) DOES NOT fit on the fixed MOE rifle length stock. Magpul needs to get a jump on making this distinction clear as current advertising is a bit misleading.

Heres is a pick of the enhanced butt-pad for the carbine MOE;
http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/pp110/wildhawk66/ACSPad_zpsaf2bb20d.jpg

Here is a pic of the butt of the rifle length fixed MOE stock with the factory pad removed. As you can see, there is no way the carbine MOE enhanced pad will fit.
http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/pp110/wildhawk66/IMG_6479_zps8987d094.jpg

If you want to add an extended rubber pad to the fixed rifle MOE stock, you need to get the extended rubber butt pad for the PRS stock like the one below.

Happened to have an A1, A2 and MOE Rifle stocks sitting here so I threw them on the postal scale. All stocks were weighed with mounting hardware but without buffer tube, buffer and spring.

A1 Stock = 11.9oz
A2 Stock = 13.2 oz

Agreed.

I just traded my MOE for an A2. Im so much happier.

Not that the adjustable MOE was bad, it just felt a little weak. PLus I never really adjusted it.

The A2 was brand new and feels so much sturdier. Plus it has a compartment for a LPK and spare springs and what not:D

The A2 just makes the rifle look better...But this butt stock is a close second. I like it but the design is a little weird looking.

Wildhawk66

Took the rifle length MOE stock out for the first time today and am really happy with it. I found it balances my 18" spr build perfectly, and the curved surface of the butt automatically centered the rifle on my shoulder much better than a flat A1/A2 butt stock does.

Also, the storage compartment is huge and opens much easier than an A2 style, but still locks solidly in place. There is no way one of these is going to accidentally come open and dump contents. If Magpul is smart, they will engineer some sort of accessory insert designed to carry certain items in this space while keeping them from rattling around.

Overall, my impression is that these are very solid quality stocks and a good upgrade for anyone running a fixed stock/featureless build. I like mine enough to have already ordered a second for a .308 build.

tempting... Any problems for those who are using it?

The only problems I ran into:

1. This stock makes me really rethink all my bullet button rifles with collapsible stocks. Plus the cheekweld is just so much better. I wish the UBE were lighter.

2. It makes the overall length of my rifles a bit longer and I can no longer use a couple of my soft rifle cases to carry them fully assembled instead of broken between lower and upper (not really a fault but an issue I ran into nontheless).
