Anyone with experience with Herters 7.62x39? Looking to buy from Cabelas and use in an AK.

I have used it. It went bang every time I pulled the trigger. The hollow point ammo strung out some bunnies pretty good.

Its just repackaged from the Tula plant. Same ammo just like Wolf Miltary Classic.

Herters is NOT tula, its Uly.

I've used a few thousand rounds of it, good stuff.

The Tula and Ulyanovsk plant are owned by the same guy. They export ammo under the TulAmmo brand to the states. Sometimes under the Ulyanovsk brand.

I've only seen Uly branded under wolf/Tula in the 223 and 308 ammunition. I don't doubt they are owned by the same company, but they are not the same plant, and from what I have seen, not identical components.

Never used it myself but from the description on Cabelas it seemed like it was steel case (maybe core as well?) and the ranges I frequent ***** about ammo that will stick to a magnet...

It is steel cased, Bimetal jacket.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll buy some for zombie hunting since they don't care about steel or brass :) The price was definitely reasonable.

I have had VERY bad experience with that stuff.

but some of it on sale from cabelas from pretty much dirt cheap, and in many many attempts to use it, it had about a 30-40% dud rate. had to do some serious talking to cabelas to get them to fix the situation. then when I went on to cabelas to do a review of the product they deleted it a few times and after I insisted they stop deleting my reviews because people needed to know, they said that they don't have to let every review up or something.
but could be just a bad lot or something who knows.

I just bought 12 boxes online. $4.29 a box with free shipping is worth a shot. If it sucks I'm not out much.

Was it the 762x39? I've read the 308 specifically is horrible.

Like I said, Ive ran over 4k through one rifle, still have about 2k on hand, zero issues.

Tula is better. I ordered 500 rounds of both .308 and 7.62X39 of Herter's from Cabelas and I was less than impressed. I had multiple pin strike FTF on both calibers in both my Saiga's. It wasn't a FTF every mag but definitely not as reliable as I would have liked it.
My brother bought some .223 and the casings jammed on almost every shot and had to be manually extracted. Not good stuff, IMO
