Just found this Burris XTS-235 multi-reticle + 2X eyepiece scope
http://www.burrisoptics.com/tactical2.html

It's like getting two scopes in one unit. I wonder how it compares with EOTECH HOLO sight. My plan is putting this on AR-15 carbine.

My only red-dot sight experience is using the low cost BSA 30 mm on airsoft.

Doesn't.

There's a big difference between 4X and 2X, 2X is such a small amount of magnification. I can understand the appeal of that, though, even if it looks a bit awkward with the 2X attachment on. I have a 2X red dot that's ok. I would suggest you actually check out an Eotech before you get that. Red dots are ok, but once you see the perfectly clear Eotech window with that oh so adjustable brightness circle/dot... you'll never be the same.

The Burris XTS-235 also has circle+dot reticle and this is why I wonder how it compares with the Eotech HOLO. You are right, I think it is the best to see them both and compare them side by side.:)
