just unboxed this today. HRA service grade with a new production CMP stock. the stock was a nice surprise and looks amazing. dont care too much about correctness since this will be a shooter. muzzle is a 1 and throat is a 2. i'm going to the range tomorrow so we will see how she shoots. very happy with the purchase and would recommend YOU get a CMP rifle too. totally worth it. very very excited about this rifle. i've wanted one since i was real little.

FUUUCk...that boom stick is in REALLYY good shape! MUCH better than mine!

Well done. Make sure you pick up a few cans of greek while your at it. Do NOT shoot that puppy with standard mordern .30-06 ammo or you'll be buying yourself a new oprod.

Just noticed you're in the 506th. I sure hope command has given you all at least a small history lesson on the things your Regiment did in Normandy and throughout WWII. Thats bad-arse.

gillafunk fortunately i handload so i loaded up some low powered rounds(46 grains of h4895 under a 150 BTSP). yes i am in the 506 and i know its history real well even before i was part of it. thats why ive wante3d this rifle since i was like 9 or 10. started with saving private ryan and private ryan being in the 506 then band of brothers. i joined the military at 18 as a medic and out of pure luck i got put into the 506th in a line platoon. pure luck i dont know how it happened. crazy world. either way i want to put the Currahee crest on the buttstock and a spade up front somewhere. i would still be in the 506th but i was medically retired due to wounds received in action. i'm proud to have this rifle and i'm proud of the history it stands for and the significance it has with my unit and the freedom it gave us. Currahee. stands alone

Welcome to the Garand club, they are truly great, historic, fun to shoot rifles. I love mine, it is very similar to yours, '54 HRA Service Special.

Man that is nice! I wish I bought one of these 10 years ago when they had them cheap at Big 5 near me lol. Kind of ironic because I am in the middle of Band of Brothers right now. Watching it for the 5324th time. Never gets old!

HOOAH!

I have an HRA Service Grade, so I don't have to wonder how it shoots. You will not be disappointed.
And, thank you for your service. I take my hat off to you.

How can I get a CMP Garand rifle? Your's is beautiful by the way

Fill out some paperwork, join a club, get a piece of paper signed to show you know how to operate some sort of firearm, send money.

Do NOT shoot that puppy with standard mordern .30-06 ammo or you'll be buying yourself a new oprod.

Get yourself an inexpensive adjustable gas plug and this won't be an issue.

army i zigged when i should have zagged oops and if you turds werent getting hurt all the time i wouldnt have had to zig zag at all haha.

i went to the range today...it shot AMAZING. i did a quick 25 yard zero and it was all within an 1-2". then moved it out to 100 and shot about a 3.5"-4" group. i wasnt really trying to see how accurate it was and putting much effort into it being that i wanted to move to the steel range to get my elevation adjustments down so i can compete at sac valley this weekend... i'm sure i could have shot much better groups if i put the time in. at the steel i was doing better than i thought i would. got my adjustments figured out now to load up more ammo for this weekend. if i missed at the steel it was my fault i just needed to do my part which we all screw up every once in a while. i'll be happy with a score of 15 this weekend haha if even. i've never competed before really

I got my CMP Springfield Special grade (1943) a few months back and I'm lovin' mine, too. I've been loading some 168gr Matchkings into the spent Greek cases just to see what she'll do for accuracy but I haven't put any of these downrange yet. No matter what this is a classic and a darn fine rifle!
ps--if that's the new manufacture CMP stock don't forget to put a couple coats of tung oil on it. It makes the wood even prettier and helps protect it, too.

Is that the $625 service grade or the $995? I have been saving up for the CMP special, though I'm not sure the extra $370ish is necessary.

Dirty506
09-19-2012, 8:48 AM
yes it is the 625$ service grade. i was going to get the cmp special originally but then some bills came around that needed to be paid. so i got the service grade instead. you will not be dissapointed with the service grade. save the extra cash and buy some ammo. you may not be as lucky as i was with the new stock but from what i've seen the used stocks are in damn fine condition and you wont regret it guarenteed. the CMP treats us well. i beleive i hsould have had to pay a lot more for this rifle. its an amazing deal and an amazing rifle.

homebrew...do it. get the service grade. buy some ammo. and shoot the shiz outta it.
