For anyone interested in going...last match open class was divided into "Open Irons" and "Open Scope". For example, National Match AR's are not shooting against scoped AR's.

This is a very fun match to shoot and even a hack shooter like me can place. :p

Can I shoot my National Match mini 14 with scope in open class? It was issued to some third world militarys .It wont beat any AR 15s and hurt there feelings.;)

What problem do FMJ bullets cause?

What problem do FMJ bullets cause?

I would guess idiots showing up with FMJ steel core stuff causing damage to steel targets. Only hassle I can see is if someone wanted to shoot with archaic milsurp ammunition everyone else will be using handloads without a doubt.

What exactly does stock mean for 223 or 308 AR? NM config or will any AR be okay?

A "stock" AR15 would be one in A1 or A2 configuration, or a flattop with the carry handle and standard rear sight (flip). A CAR15 configuration with G.I. iron sights would probably be ok for the As Issued class, but the short sight radius and slightly lower velocity would make life difficult shooting the rams.

An AR built for High Power/CMP competition would fall into the "Open Iron" class, an AR with any kind of optic would fall into the "Open Optic" class.

BTW, there has never been an "official" NM AR15/M16 like there was for a Garand. It's strictly a marketing ploy.

I sure hope an accomplished f-class shooter such as yourself can beat my 39/40 from last match. ;)

This is a lot of fun, low-pressure and enjoyable match. Nice place to bring a new silhouette shooter to introduce them to the game.
Re: FMJ bullets; a lot of us "Mexican match" by pulling GI rounds and plugging in soft points. Not exactly "hand loads" but are easier on the targets.

I dont get the bid deal about FMJ ammo.....at 200 yards, those AR500 steel silhouettes aint gettin no damage even from steel core stuff. And I cant imagine them using anything less than AR500....but maybe I'm wrong.

In any case, sounds fun!

Over time high velocity steel core can damage them I have a 6" AR500 steel gong with chips out of it from steel core 62gr. Soft points will crater them as well. Hollow points go poof when they hit, stick to them.

Ken I dont even need the advantage of a sling. You guys that like a crutch go ahead and use your slings. I will go old school and just shoot off my left elbow without the aid of a jacket or sling:D

Rosalie works the counter. She doesn't know all the details about all the matches.
