I'm not in love with detachable magazines for my bolt action rifles. Actually, many of my bolt rifles are single shot like the 40X or Savage 112. Still I admit liking to spend a few dollars from time to time on something different. I have a few Remington 700 "Police" rifles and am considering changing the factory bottom metal on a 7mm Rem Mag version. In an effort to be economical but not cheap I came across this:

From what I can determine they're made by Pacific Tool & Gauge, I've bought some of their other products and found them well made.

Does anyone have experience with this "PTG" model magazine bottom metal, reports good or bad? What brand magazines work?

PTG will use AICS mags and fits in a normal badger inlet.
They are good to go.
Should be under $150 everywhere.

Looks alot like the Badger Ordance M5 which I have myself and it comes with a AI .223 mag for $319. Not much more if not cheaper for these BO Here is a link here, best price I have found http://swfa.com/Badger-Ordnance-Triggerguards-C4034.aspx. Hope this helps in the confusion

AI 223 mags run $40.
$130+ $40 is $170.
My math might be off, but I think $170 is a lot less than $319.

Wow! glad I came across this thread. I was going to buy the badger one that was $399.00

Just placed the order for the PTG one, then on midway ordered the 10 round AICS magazine.

Cool... just hope it isnt on back order too long..

Do yourself a favor and get 5 round mags too.
The 10 round mags hang down so far that you have to break position to change them when you are in a proper low prone position.
The 5 round mags are also better for positional shooting.

I had my first customer since my return to calguns last night...
Someone with a damaged bullet button that needed to be drilled out.

Thanks all for the info. Prices seem to be about $125.00'ish at most places. I'm kind of surprised Brownells doesn't carry them, that's where I get the biggest FFL $$ break.

Regarding mags, I have a Ruger Gunsite Scout and it comes with a 10 rounder that I assume is AICS or Alpha Industries. It really does hang down alot so I bought the Ruger poly 5 and 10 rounders. I'm getting a LA PTG, but a follow up question would be might the Ruger Gunsite Scout poly mags fit in this PTG? They Ruger mags are a much better fit than the steel ones, if they worked in this thing that would be nice.

Whether steel or the Ruger issue the 5 rounders are much better all around.

There were some issues with ruger mags fitting in typical AICS bottom metal like badger/Ptg.
