The mini 14 has interested me for sometime now but I never picked one up. My interest has peaked again. Anyone know what the going rate for a new mini 14 is in Socal. Best I've seen so far is $700. Anyone seeing a better price for a plain jane steel and wood model?

I saw one in Stockton for $400, and saw one at turners recently for $450. However, i think both are the old pencil barrels.

I am sure this has been covered before but I thought I would post it just in case.

I sent off an email to Ruger the other day asking what the twist rates for their Mini 14 rifles were. Below is what they sent me.

Response:
Mini14 rate of twist
1. 1974- 1986 is 1 in 10
2. 1986- 1997 is 1 in 7
3. 1997- present is 1 in 9
4. 7.62X39mm is 1 in 10
5. 6.8 SPC 1 in 10

The one above my post. The one with the twist rates of the barrels, and then there's a link for a bedroom furniture website superstore located across the Atlantic Ocean in the UK.

You can also find them online for under $600 new if you look around. Grabagun had them for $585 for a few weeks.

Yup. My local shop had one for $600. Didn't last, always a popular gun.

Used from $400-$550 for pencil barrel to $700 for NIB/LNIB 580+ thick barrel. NIB from a store I dont know.

I like the mini 14. Not bashing the gun. But who would want to spend 600-700 bucks for one when an AR is either the same cost or just a tad more?
Since the AR is a decent California gun again, I would think the mini 14's would drop back to a reasonable price.

How about because it's not an AR and for == money both are excellent rifles. What the Mini might give up in ultimate bench rest shooting accuracy it makes up for in reliability and old school looks. YMMV.

OP - new you're looking at $700 not including tax and DROS. Used I think $600 and DROS only. I would imagine costs to start rising as the election nears. Just after the last election my local gun shop was sold out of Mini 14 and they were going for the $1200 range. Plan on buying sooner rather than later friends.

That is why I've been reluctant to pull the trigger one until now. I recall seeing these in shops years ago (before the AW laws) for next to nothing. So Ive always been reluctant to pay top dollar. Even at $700 I think its way too much but if thats the going rate than so be it. I have an AR so I think its time to get a mini since it doesn't need to be neutered but I was hoping there is a shop that had it for less. Looks like that is not the case though.

Appreciate the feedback fellas. I don't think ordering online saves much after FFL fees, time, hassle and now that we have to pay tax, so I'm looking locally.

Haven't you ever watched ANY episode of the A-team? If so then you would know by now that with a mini-14 you can't hit ANYTHING that you are aiming at. You have a better chance to do damage by welding on a junk car or truck and driving over someone.

btw, my friend has one for $650 I think in Riverside and that is about the going rate, 600-750 but lately I have only seen $700-$750 for some reason. OH and if sb249 passed I bet that would have jumped up to about $850.

Also, do not forget that they use their OWN magazines that cost about $40+ each and aftermarkets DO NOT WORK.
