Here is a video we put together explaining the difference between the 6 and 7 position Vltor A5 receiver extensions. Some of the more popular stocks are featured in this video to illustrate the differences on how a shorter or longer stock interfaces with the two receiver extensions.

In short there are two basic differences between the two, the number of stops/positions, and how far the stock will collapse onto the extension. All other dimensions are the same, including overall length and compatibility with Vltor A5 buffer systems. Generally, if you prefer to run a standard milspec stock, Magpull Moe, CTR, or the Vltor Modstock you would want to use the 6 position RE-10/A5SR AKA 6 position receiver extension. The longer stocks such as the Vltor E-mod, and the Magpull ACS/ACSL work well with the 7 position A5 Receiver Extension.

So the 6 position uses the same exact buffer and spring, right? Interesting. Might have to make the change from 7 position to 6 position.
