I have read over the sections regarding handgun purchases and how the PPT does not apply to the 1 handgun per 30 day rule. But I just wanted confirmation from our community.

Can I PPT a handgun today (10 day wait), then the following week purchase a new handgun from a dealer and begin my DROS (another 10 day wait) ? It is my understanding that this is allowed.

I would like to confirm this as well. I just did a PPT last week and have a gun on layaway at a gun shop that I want to Dros soon.

Unless you are in LA.

I'm not in LA county thankfully. But can you elaborate on that more? Does LA have a more restrictive law?

City of LA to be precise

City of Los Angeles Municipal Code
SEC. 55.14. SALE OR PURCHASE OF MORE THAN ONE HANDGUN WITHIN A THIRTY DAY PERIOD PROHIBITED.

No exception for PPT

hmmm.....I live in Glendale, I drosed the PPT in Burbank...and I need to dros at the gun shop in Culver city.

I am still going to wait the 30 days so I don't have to deal with any B.S.

does anyone know if sacramento has any such restriction? and regarding the LA law, what happens if you ppt a handgun outside of LA, then go to purchase one in an LA gun store? or vice versa?

So you can purchase a brand new gun and do a PPT in the same 30 days?

PPT is Private Party Transfer... when you sell your privately owned firearm to to someone and transfer thru a FFL. Sorry... looks like someone else beat me to it.

No other city has such restrictions at this time.

Only applies at stores within the city, so purchase or ppt in the city and then the opposite type of transaction outside the city within 30 days should be fine. I'd wait the 10 days between though to avoid dros rejection on the first handgun.

Any other combination within 30 days, with the second occuring at a store within the city should in theory cause a rejected dros at the store in the city.

ok thanks, very interesting since I didn't realize that city governments had the power to create such laws, especially since pretty much the same law has been already enacted by the state. yet another reason to not move to LA
