Update: 04/04/08 - I received a few CMMG uppers today. After filling backorders, I have a couple 16" MedCon uppers with carbine length handguards and a 16" Mid-Length MedCon upper left.

EDIT: I now have 16" M4 and 20" Gov't profile CMMG uppers in stock as well.

I've got a shipment of CMMG MedCon uppers in 16" and 20" barrel lengths, both with standard front sights and with low-profile gas blocks. I also have some customization options for handguards, free-float tubes, and sights. These uppers are very nice and I'm tempted to put one of the 20" uppers with a free-float on my own precision AR (although I need to quit dipping into my own stash! :D) These uppers start at just $499.99.

I was looking at the Bushmaster take down pin for the Carbon 15 that has a hole in the head so that you could add a split ring or a paracord loop. I thought it was a good idea for top-loading but the problem with the Bushmaster pin is that it is plastic. I had an idea though, so I put a Watson take down pin in my drill press, drilled a hole in the head, and added a black split ring. Here is the result. I thought this would be great for top-loaders so I added it to my webpage and will be selling these for $9.49 - just $1.00 more than a plain Watson pin.

I'd recommend this to anyone who uses a top loader, my Carbon 15 (before I opened it and installed a BB) used the extended takedown pin with a key ring and it worked very good and made loading faster.

Awesome idea. Even though I don't topload, this will make it easier for me to pull out the take down pin when cleaning. :D Just completed my order for two and a bullet button/tool combo. Thanks for hooking us up.

Can someone try this on a Keltec and let us know how it works?

I bought something from OSH that works well with my Keltec.

It won't work - the diameter of the takedown pin on the Kel-Tec is smaller than that of the AR.

just be carefull - i had one on the stock takedown pin on a carbon-15. i yanked it open a bit too hard and broke the end of it off. then it slid all the way out. shouldn't be a problem on these tho-they are metal pins, not plastic......correct?

I originally ordered some of the Bushmaster pins but sent them back when I discovered they were plastic. These are the standard Watson Extended take down pins and are steel so they are very sturdy. The split ring is made of spring-tempered steel - these are not going to break.

I used a 1/4" pin on my Kel-Tec. It fits just right.

A nice addition if you think you need it. It sure beats the price of nearly the same thing that Shoeless was selling for $25! I have one of the shoeless ones with pull ring and I actually like the plain jain Watson Extended Take Down Pin more. I kept finding that the pull ring would get in the way when I would go to close the rifle. That is why I liked the standard Watson so much because it is definitely the KISS principle.

Try one of these out, you can always remove the pull ring. If you are running a break open AR, you need something other than the standard take down pin.

Will this item work with the small ball bearings that act as the detent replacement ?

The stock DPMS take down pics seem to be pure junk and I have done a slight modification to the pin using the small diameter (.075) ball bearing.

Thanks

Wes, yes $25 sounds a little steep for something like this, and like you said you can always just remove the ring or replace it with a paracord loop or something else if wanted. Maybe our Asian brothers would want to hang small anime character off of it like their cell phones :D

Sam, I am not familiar with the ball-bearing detent - does it fit in the groove of a standard takedown pin? Do you have a link?

I just ordered 5 of them... they definitly look like what I've been after. (I have some TIGHT rifles)

I'm getting some more AR's soon so I may have to order a few more later on :D

Yes its just a tad bit smaller than the dia of the pin style detent and it works or worked a lot better than the crap DPMS detent and take down pin that came in the DPMS LPK.

I installed the original both ways and the pin would not close. I would guess the profile of the end of the detent pin was faulty. as when I used the ball bearings it opened and closed with ease.

I have also used a standard aircraft quick pin that worked flawlessly.

I was not aware of this. Are you sure it isn't our Asian Sisters who are doing this?

This might do the trick for a very tight pull job. For $9, why not??? Someone tell us how they work out.

The package with the five pins just showed up, I've already installed one in my 'around the house' AR it works great and looks snazzy.

I don't even run pinned mag rifles, but this makes it so much easier to take the rifle down for cleaning and installing a .22 conversion. Best 10$ I've spent on an AR accessory yet.

now if you can just come up with one for the front pin ;)

Cool, I'm glad people like these. I don't think it is required for the pivot pin. My pivot pins always press out pretty easily with a finger, once the take down pin is pulled.

I've got these in 4 rifles now, and I would love to get extended pull ring equiped pivot pins for them but I can't seem to find anything like it on the market.

any plans to offer one as a product?

I freaking love these things!

Thanks, I figure with a takedown pin and a pivot pin replaced with the nifty keyring extended pins, I can swap uppers really really quickly.. or use my AR as takedown rifle to store it in a small case.

I just dislike pushing little pins in to make stuff happen, having a ring to pull just makes more sense.

I am currently out of the 16" MedCon uppers with plastic handguards, but I have them on order so hopefully they will be here soon. I have all the other CMMG uppers in stock, however. I also have some mid-length uppers on order so I will have even more choices available soon.

I've got a couple Mid-length MedCon uppers coming in on Friday, but one is already sold. It's up to CMMG to get more to me - I certainly have a LOT on order. I also have a couple carbine-length MedCon uppers coming Friday as well, 1 already sold.

I was thinking about ordering up a batch of these - not sure if there is enough thickness to drill for a ring but I can check.

I"ve got all the CMMG uppers on order - just a matter of when they can get some to me. I will call on Monday to see if I can get an update. If you place an order you will reserve it as they move very fast once they get in. On wed I received three 16" MedCon uppers, on thursday I updated the status to show they were in stock and I sold all three by the end of the day!

Wow, you made me just realize that I didn't put a muzzle device as an option on my upper kits. I'll have to do this when I get a chance. Anyway, you can always just add the YHM muzzle brake to the order and add a comment for me to install it for you. I'll give you credit for the flash-hider.
