The outside is African Mahogany, specifically Khaya Ivorensis. The back of the cabinet is something different, like Okoume.

I really like the two vertical pieces of the cabinet frame. Finding figured wood like that is a treat. Doesnt happen often.

Best.

OK thanks for adding that. My Dad had this cabinet for years but I recently upgraded to a gun safe. It was my buddy who told me Philippine Mahogany but you know how that goes...

Easy to mis-identify. Phillipine Mahog has a narrower heart structure, and a more 'pinkish-hue'. Both are nice, please dont take it the wrong way. I especially like the figured part. You probably have no idea just how rare that is...I've been in the exotic wood industry for 18yrs, and have only seen African Mahog with that 'level of figure' a handful of times. Whomever did the finishing really knew what they were doing, to be able to bring it out that much.

best.

I appreciate the info - and you're right - I had no idea how rare! I see what you're saying and it was probably a great deal at that price.
