View Full Version : My Browning Hi-Power gets a facelift...

After 20+ years of wearing Pachmayr grips, I decided to "revitalize" my Hi-Power with Blended Ivory Grips.

I think that the checkered Ivory Grips with the Fleur-de-Lis engraving contrast nicely with the Browning's dark finish.

Grip Close-Up:

I like the new look - At first I wasn't so sure; after all, one's familiarity with a firearm of a span of 20 Years is hard to let go, especially when that previous system was OK - but within a minute or two, the look and feel of the Ivory Grips started to grow on me..

If I had to put the comparison in a commonly familiar context using well known actors; I'd say that in the "Before", the BHP was a Charles Bronson...and the "After" is more of a Cary Grant. :)

On a more practical comparison, I find that the Ivory grips feel more comfortable to the grasp than the previous set in a static situation; this although the new Grips are slightly wider at the backstrap. I think this may be because these new Grips allow for a closer ( deeper ) hold of the Pistol at the webbed area between the thumb and the index finger - Also, the front-to-back distance of one's grasp is lessened by eliminating the Pachmayr's backstarp / wrap-around design..It all adds up to makling for a more "positive" hand-hold on the gun

We'll have to see how these new Grips fare under fire; but I think that the wider area at the backstrap could make for a somewhat softer felt recoil, as that force would be distibuted over a larger area where Back-of-Grip-meets-Hand.

This is where I got my grips ( excellent service, very prompt delivery ):

Nice piano finish.

I like the contrast. I'm thinking about doing it on my CZ-82

Go for it...:)

The contrast looks much better in person than the pics can depict.
