Date: July 21st Saturday
Location: Burro Canyon Shooting range (Private Tac range 3B)
Time: 9:00AM till close
Range Fee: $15 per person

This meet will be a little different than the last as we will be going to Burro Canyon. I went ahead and rented our own private range for us which goes out to 90 yards and we have decided to have a Fruit shoot! Go to the store buy tons of fruit, vegetables, and anything else you think will be fun to shoot (no propane tanks! LOL) and come out!

List of what people are bringing:

Proraptor: 12 X 12 EZ up canopy, Name Tags
Bryan: EZ up
PRC329: A cooler full of bottled water

Someone need to bring some snacks cause I get hungry!!!! Im not sure what else we need but post in the thread with stuff you will bring....

Also remember that the tac ranges really dont have shooting benches (there is usually a large table not really used to shoot from.) so bring mats to go prone on or your own shooting bench (wish I had one).

Also you need to bring a target stand if you want to shoot targets...I think you can rent one from them but you could probably build one out of PVC for cheaper than they rent them for...

Im really excited about this one and cant wait to how that fruit whose boss…Hopefully we will see you all there!

whooie! I have not been to on yet.. inland is nice for precision shooting.. it is a bit small and only goes out to 200 but there are sandbags at every rest and there is a "precision attitude" there

They are a good time. See some fun rifles - and share guns/tips/tricks/etc. Nice people to shoot with.

Just look out for the big guy with a Raiders shirt on - he isn't so nice.:D

I would like to join the group, but my schedule is pretty messy with a wife and a 5 year old. Most of my shooting is spur of the moment, and as I just got a garand I am putting together, and have only ferrous ammo, I would vote for Lytle Creek for a shoot, but I like Angeles Crest better for long range rifle.

I vote for Burro! Since they allow fruits, veggies, and a variety of other objects to be shot.. we can set up scenarios like hostage potatoes and what not. What can I say.. they're cheap and blow up good.

I'm good for either Saturday or Sunday. To keep it fair.. maybe we should try a Sunday to see who comes out.

Official Vote: July 15th at Burro.

I'd pick the 8th.. but some may be going out of town that weekend.

Don't the precision shooters stay on the cement bench rifle side and shoot at the little piggy? I've always seen the highpower guys hold their competitions on the green benches on the pistol side since you can't hang 300/600 yard targets at Angeles.

I wouldn't mind trying something different, but if it doesn't go beyond 300 yards, it's not much of a challenge especially shooting at known distances. Even when shooting field positions.

APS has steel out to 430 - 450 yards and if you let me know when this will be I'll put out some of my poppers, 6" and 8" steel on the hills. DOn't be fooled into thinking its easy by the short 400 - 450 yards, between the angles, thermals and ever changing wind hitting a 6" plate consistently in prone will tax your abilities @ 430 yards. Ask anyone who has shot in my matches.

Also if you want to try APS and there's enough of you and you want to either come early 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. or late in the day to stay after 5:00 I'll open it up to clang the buff from one of my match areas at around 775 yards. The range will have to be closed to the public to do this as you'll be shooting over a good portion of the range, hence the early or late hours.

If you guys want to come out to the desert, there are a few places I shoot most every weekend that go out to a mile or more. Hard part is getting the targets up on some of the hills. I have some steel IPSC type targets, some 10in circles, and various railroad plates. Being in the high desert (about 10 mi from mojave), it should be in the low 90's, but we can get some shade and it'll be tolerable. Also, the wind picks up in the afternoon, so the earlier the better. If some of you are into camping, you can also camp out there on this BLM land. Let me know.

Temecula looks interesting and its close for a lot of people. Coming out to the desert is a long trip and best done as a 2 day adventure. And, as wildcard said, its very challenging. You'll learn a lot from the wind and fluctuating temps out here. The place I shoot is about 10 miles from the city of Mojave, so its a long trip for the San Diego guys.

A desert trip would need lots of planning and carpooling. We could also set it up to do a night shoot the evening before for those that wanted to camp or bring a trailer. The possibilities are endless.

Went out to the desert today and did some 1000 yd shooting. I will sadly admit that my performance was pathetic. Anyhow.. the trick to doing it was to wake up at 3:15 am.. get set up by 6:00 am.. and be done shooting by 10:30 am before the sun starts blazing down :)

The best budget fruit/ veggie to shoot that also requires some degree of accuracy and will blow up are potatoes.

Im bringing an EZ up (I think its a 12 X 12), Name tags Another member is talking about bringing one also....Nate is bringing water......Someone bring some chips or something so we arent starving...

If you want to shoot small things get a can of peas and glue them to a target and see how hard it is to hit one at 90yrds with your scoped rifle. Grapes would work also but cost more than a small can of peas.

You could also bring 2 saw horses and put a 2x4 between them and place apples, pears, oranges, pomegranettes(sp?), kiwis on it. Treat it like multiple targets.

Bring 4x6 color photos you no longer want and shoot the people in the photo, hostage taker shooting.

Ok guys everyone meet at the sign in booth and get signed in....Everyone needs to pay $15 before heading over to the tac range.

The firing line needs to be as far back as possible to get the whole 90 yards. Im planning on getting there a little early so I can make sure the firing line is far enough for the precision shooters.

Im also going to try and put all the bolt action precision guys to one side so they dont get rained on from the semi's. There will also be one side for pistol shooting which will have closer fruit stands.....

Me and Aaron are carpooling and bringing two EZ ups....I cant guarantee you will get a spot under one of them so i you have an EZ up laying around you might want to bring it.

That Pala Range will be expensive to shoot at unless you go there w/ some frequency. Not sure if there's a fee for the actual match.. but you do need to be a member of the NRA to participate. As for becoming a member for $45 and paying the $15 range fee.. only mondays and two fridays per month are available for practice. You can also go in as a guest for $20.. but I assume you have to be there with a member and I don't know if there's a limit to the number of guests. If you go the Match route in which you compete in the morning and stay to shoot until they close.. that's only on the 4th Sunday of the month. That's just from what I read.

I vote for a desert shoot.

I'm sure it is a great range to join and shoot at if you're a member that lived close to there and had a very open schedule :)

I wouldn't worry about the heat as long as you've got cold drinks and some shade. Come on.. we're supposed to be Southern California Precision Rifle Shooters. As such, we should learn how to shoot at all temperatures and all distances. You'd be surprised how different it is to shoot at high temps.. and by that I'm not just talking about how you feel.. but ballistics!
