View Full Version : My Colt O1991 project, tryin to look like a Series 70

Since I purchased my O1991 I've never really cared for the really long trigger and the flat MSH. I also didn't care for the stock Rosewood grips.

So I purchased a Harrison Design short trigger and had Alan Tanaka fit it and reduce the pull down to 4-4.5 lbs. The short trigger is better with my short fingers. He also did an action/reliability job on it. Alan does great work!

Then I purchased an Ed Brown blued steel arched MSH, slid right on, fit perfectly. The arched MSH seems to fill the space in my hand better.

Next was my little grip project. Ive always loved the gold medallions Colt used to put on their grips. I just never cared for the all checkered grips. I love the walnut double diamond style much more. So I purchased a set of Colt WWI style walnut grips and a pair of Colt gold medallions. I used my uncles drill press and drilled a 1/2" hole using a Forstner bit then drilled the smaller hole in the center, cant remember the size. Put on a little bit of two-part epoxy and voila! Old school Colt grips :D

Yes my camera sucks, so we're stuck with glare, blurry pictures :p

Now after all of this my no longer stock O1991 is starting to look like an older Colt Series 70 lol.

Thanks guys. I'm really digging the new little look its got. I figured until I can get a nice Series 70 this will just have to do. Alan did great work cleaning up the trigger pull and lightening it. The new trigger doesn't wiggle around at all compared to the stock long trigger which fit very loosely. Cant wait to take it out to the range with its new improvements :D
