View Full Version : Greetings from faraway Germany

Hi there,

this seems like a really nice forum, so I thought I'd devote the time and introduce myself.

I'm 21 years old and currently study computer science in Munich which is a city in south-eastern Germany. I hope the fact that I am neither from California nor the United States as a whole doesn't constitute a problem. I am a huge fan of both the State of California and the United States, however.

As a hunter, I have a particular interest in guns and therefore spend quite a bit of time at shooting ranges. My favorite gun at the moment is the Avenger (fixed-barrel system for the 1911). I'm planing on buying an M14 in the near future, but apparently they are increasingly needed by the U.S. military once more, so they are quite hard to get.

I spend some time every now and then browsing not only German, but also American gun forums such as this one, because both in total and as a percentage of the local population, there are many more gun owners in the U.S. than in Germany. As a result of this, American gun lobbyisits appear to be much more influential as compared to their German counterparts which is reflected by the fact that American gun laws are generally less confining than ours.

Unfortunately, there is no organization such as the NRA in Germany. That said, there are some lobbyists, but thus far they were unable to unite and form an effectve alliance against enemies of private gun ownership, such as the Green Party or even worse the Left Party, both of which fortunately are not in power at the moment. There are more than two million gun owners over here, but by and large they don't speak with one voice and that's the problem. It's a hard thing to pin down the causes of, but I generally feel that there is a certain reluctance in my country when it comes to guns which is a real pity for those who like them. What I'm trying to say here is this: it is a good thing to have an organization such as the NRA and you can be proud of that. Keep up the good work! :)

I'm looking forward to having a nice time here in the future and I hope that I'll be welcome here, even though I'm not one of you in terms of nationality. I sure do share the same interest, though.

Best regards,

SoCal Bob

Welcome brother. If you have any questions, dont be afraid to ask. There can be some members on this forum who can come off as rude to new members. Dont be put off by it if you come across one of our more "unpleasant" members. Most of us are simply here to help. Again, welcome and I hope you continue to enjoy our forum.

Welcome, First off, your English is amazingly natural. 2nd, I love German guns. 3rd, You are more than welcome here on calguns. Jump right in the conversations, if anyone gives you a hard time, PM me, I will kick their ars, figuratively.

I am sure you are aware of this but we have an amendment to our constitution forbidding the infringement of our gun rights... The NRA, which is a product of our civil war, has to constantly fight to make sure that amendment is observed.
