Chopping the barrel down to a pistol length is going to make it a SBR. Check out this thread for a way to make it legally:

Best to put a helmet on before going to the range with that!

There are several crazy Calgunners who have made them. It is not as easy as you would think but it is possible. They are a cool, stupid range toy, I love them, I may do one someday when I have time.

What is the hard part? It looks pretty straight forward, but I know how that goes.

You need to demill the reciever, then reweld it to be legal.

Sent from my fingers, to your face.

IIRC, to do it legally you have to cut the receiver into three pieces and then weld it back together.

Yea that's going to be a hand full for sure. ^^

Those kick like a mule in rifle versions.

The pistol versions kick a lot less than the rifles. By the time the bullet exits the barrel, there is a ton of powder that hasn't even ignited by then, hence the huge fireball, but not that much of a kick in comparison to the rifles. Very manageable but stupidly loud and a ridiculously huge fireball, that's why I like them.

I noticed that when I cut mine down to 16.25" it tamed the recoil dramatically. I added a poly stock and now it's a breeze.

It can be done by cuting the reciever into three peices removing at least 1/4" material doing so. Then reweld it back up. I may do one some day to make a brother for my psl pistol.

Any concerns about pressure from the 7.62x54R round on a welded receiver? I would want whoever does that work to be a master welder.

I would totally build one if I was better with my hands. Let's get a Obrez build party going on! I'm in!

would look interesting.. but can you hold it if you shot it? recoil will be strong..

Not so much, recoil is pretty manageable. Talk to some of the Calgunners in the other thread or watch some of the Obrez YouTube clips.
