Well long story short I'm in the market for these things, luckily I have a wood stock. not to worried about installing the studs more or less. Anyone have any experience with bi-pods that attach to the studs? any key features I should look for or steer clear of?

Uncle Mikes Swivels and Harris Bipods. I have had some success with the Harris copies too if you are on a budget. Selection of a bipod is based upon use. Bench rest shoting I usually use the shorter ones.

Sorry to add this a little late, but if any of you are still looking for a bipod for your Ruger, or 22 rifle, Ruger has got the ones on the Tactical 10/22 on sale right now:

I have the 10/22 Target Tactical with the factory bipod and it works just fine.

How does this attach to the rifle? I admit, since I do not have mine in fornt of me, the answer might be obvious, but I've not spent a lot of quality time with my 10/22 yet.

There is a screw between the legs that opens and closes a jaw on the sling stud.

instructions were clear and easy took about 5 mins with a drill press to get the hole for the swivel stud, and the bi pod fits perfectly
