Anyone have a lead on Federal Bulk Packs of .22lr in Sacramento/Elk Grove area Wally worlds? Went to the EG store today and nothing. It has been like this since they started carrying more Winchester .22.

Try the "New & Improved" Remington golden bullets and see what you think. I have liked them in several of my .22's. Don't get me wrong, I like Federal too, but have found the remingtons to be very good, at least with this N&I version.

I usually get mine in Antelope or Roseville. Just leave me some. I need a new box, or maybe I should buy 2.

What is "new & Improved" on the golden bullets? I have had lots of failure to feed and fire in my Umarex Colt ar15 22LR and my gsg 1911 22LR. And with the Federal bulk no problems at all.

+1 i will never buy golden bullets again, many many fail to feed AND fire as many as 1 in 20 had some sort of problem, i even had 2 in one box that the case was bent like 15*

federal has worked great for me for plinking, only maybe 2 FTF in a brick. accurate to 50 yards, beyond that the groups widen up quite a bit

Federal bulk is a high velocity ammo. Depends on your barrel length the velocity of the bullet is going supersonic but at around 50 yards the bullet drops to the speed of sound and it would become unstable. Use standard velocity ammo and the bullet never enters supersonic and you won't have that problem.

Yeah but they charge $27. In fact all of Big 5's ammo is high.

I'll tell you the wally world on Folsom blvd and Zinfandel in Rancho Cordova doesn't have any. Checked yesterday. The guy said they were stocked yesterday but somebody came in and bought a bunch.

Also, the one in Orangevale by Greenback and Hazel doesn't have any. I grabbed the last box yesterday.

Saw that deal for Cabelas on slickguns... I may jump on that since I'm having a hard time finding any of the fed packs for .22lr. I don't think any tax on that and 4200rnds will get you to free shipping.

Edit: ^^ What QuinC said

Another Edit:

$169.98 for 4200 rds of .22lr federal champion bulk + 2 ammo cans shipped to Cali through Cabela's deal

Walmarts down here in SoCal area have plenty in stock. I went there for some CCI minimags and bought a box for the hell of it. Gonna try to feed it thru my Ruger SR22. I've been feeding it purely CCI Minimags. Anyone know if the Ruger SR22 will eat the Federals?

Yes it will. Gotta try the CCI Stingers in your SR22. Very nice kick!

Remington had an issue with the priming stage of the .22 manufacturing. I do not have the exact report anymore but there was definite inconsistancy in the application of the priming compound. Here is an example:

http://inlinethumb62.webshots.com/45565/2949353260053667879S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb61.webshots.com/45820/2432726790053667879S600x600Q85.jpg

If you look carefully you can see the compound in a "C" shape with a gap right where the firing pin struck (obviously a "dud").

A friend of mine that instructs youngsters to shoot .22 rifles was having a heck of a time with Remington and the FTF's he was experiencing. He contacted Remington, they discovered the problem (old worn out machinery I believe), overhauled the priming stage and solved the problem.

I have had absolutely no luck with any of the bulk pack Winchester junk. It barely fires in my bearcat. And that thing will fire ammo that's as nasty as old water soaked 8mm mauser green brass.

The Cabelas deal, no sales tax, no shipping, extra ammo cans, ammo always goes bang and bullets always fly. I've prob fire 6k rounds of that and been ordering it for 2 + years now.

Remington golden bullets have a bad reputation for sure, because of their previous failure to fire problems. All .22's can have preferences of ammo, so I wouldn't make a judgement based upon one gun. My SR22 pistol worked great with them and I have had good success with my Ruger 10/22 and Marlin 60/795. Remington has made an effort to fix their problem and I think it is worth another chance for those of you out there that have had bad luck. I have found them to be better than Winchester, more accurate then Federal. BTW, in bulk Federal, I usually get 2-3 FTF per box. It is not uncommon with value pack ammo. When I want to use the good stuff, I shoot CCI.

How much $$ per box?

Some !@#$% bought the last box before I could get there today. I checked both the Antelope & Roseville stores. Was that you PC??

Knowing that my Buck Mark likes the Federal Bulk, over the Winchester. I thought I'd give the Remington golden bullets a try. It does say NEW & Improved on the box!! We'll see.....

It has been like this since they started carrying more Winchester .22.

If they are Winchester M22, they are good to go (at least for me).
I would stay away from anything else Winchester .22 bulk.

Any word on the difference between the Federal bulk hollow points "copper" and the auto match "silver" bulk ($13.50/325 rds)? Per round they are about the same and in S LA they are pretty common. Seen lots of Golden Bullets cheap (250/$10). Thunderbolts for $2/50. Going to feed them all the 22/45 waiting for me in jail and if they don't work in it, they will in the revolver.

I can't imagine how far id have to drive to find a walmart with ammo in stock. I bought a bunch of Cabelas federal. Ammo cans are the nicest ive seen and I don't need to hunt that stuff down for another year or two.

Federal 375 & 550 Bulk Packs (maroon/black box) and upper end CCI is the only 22cal ammo I'll use.

Great stuff. Hardly any issues in thousands of rounds downrange.

If you can find them at a good price, get as many as you can afford. Ain't going get any cheaper!

Ammo Depot on Folsom Blvd has the 525 Blue Box of Federals for 18.99. Same price for the 500 box of CCI Blazers as well.

I bought it and first thing I noticed was how clean the rounds were..my Ruger MKIII's love them.

I've bought 4-5 boxes of the Remington Golden Bullets last time Turners had a great sale on them this year, but they definitely have more duds and Failure to Feed (Bent or really loose bullets) than any of the other bulk packs I shoot. In bulk, my .22lr (10/22, 22/45 and Buckmark Sporter) all consistently have better luck with Federal Bulk packs for general plinking. If I need more reliability, I'll use the CCI Mini-Mags.

I also noted in the SoCal IE Wally Worlds, they rarely have any Federal Bulk packs on the shelf; but plenty of the Winchester stuff.

I always see bulk packs when I go... You guys know you can tell if ammo is stock by looking at the website right?

i.e. Bulk Automatch is in stock in Elk Grove and Citrus Heights, but not Rancho Cordova. Bulk red box is in stock in all of them.

On Remington Golden Bullets, we are talking about Wal-Mart Ammo and not Turners. I know the Wal-Mart ammo says New and Improved on the boxes. I have seen some other shops still selling the old style from perhaps old stock that has been lying around. One of my local shops bought some at a great deal before Remington "Improved" them and is still selling them. I won't buy the old stuff.

Cathy at EG Walmart told me I can always call to check stock. She is always helpful and doesn't seem to mind dropping what she's doing to open up the cabinet for me. That's pretty good customer service for Walmart and/or other big box stores.
