View Full Version : Cloaking Device Disengaged

So here’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I was raised by a fervently anti-gun parent. My first experience with a firearm was with my grandfather out in the boondocks of Northern, CA. I was ten years old and he had a 10 gauge double-barreled monster that he was very interested in having me try. Being the “jump-in without testing the waters” type of kid I was… I was more than enthusiastic!!! The shotgun was taller than I was and I had to lean back to get enough leverage to get the barrel up… before grandpa could say “don’t touch the trigger yet” I fired both barrels… ***BLAM-BLAM*** I was flat on the ground, the shotgun towered over me coming down like a felled tree right on my forehead. Big welt on the head, big bruise across my chest and shoulder. I got in trouble trying to “lie away” the injuries, grandpa got in trouble with my mom… big ugly family standoff… No guns. I’ve always been interested in the mechanics, chemistry, metallurgy and physics of firearms but never owned or shot one again until…

42 years later… By buddy takes me to a shooting range - Reed’s in Santa Clara. He brings a Glock, M&P.40, Beretta 92 Brigadeer and a Browning 1911-22. We made a puddle of brass around our feet and I HAVEN’T HAD THAT MUCH FUN IN AGES!!!!!!!! I suggested that we take my wife along (CAN WE GO AGAIN PLEEEEASE!!!) as I thought she might be interested. SHE LIKES IT TOO!!! So now we’re both hooked on firearms. We own a Beretta 92, a Beretta 96, a Ruger SR22, an S&W M&P9 and a Ruger 10/22. We go target shooting at least twice a week. I find shooting to be relaxing and exhilarating at the same time. As I focus on our safety and my shots, the tribulations of the day fade and disappear. It feels good to push out my distance as I improve. The people I have met at the range are - without exception – the kindest, politest people that I have ever encountered. (Heinlein is correct!) I have been given the opportunity to try out relative stranger’s firearms and offered the same to them. Our only bond is that we both own firearms and there is a trusted connection on a basic level.

Anyway, I’ve been lurking for awhile and thought I should introduce myself. Hi!

Thanks to y'all for the warm welcome... SoCal Bob and The War Wagon... YES! That is exactly what I have been doing, making up for lost time! I had no idea how addicting this endeavor can be. It has been consuming most of my free time and $$$$ lately. Fighterpilot562, on your side in regards to the US Constitution in general and 2A in particular? Guns are fun? No doubt sir! I'm sure we can disagree on something, this is a lively and diverse forum. sully007 I had a spare one to sell, but I turned it on and now I can't find it.

Welcome! I vote: Best entry title of the year.

Oh and don't lurk around the 2nd amendment. ;)
Join NRA and save $10 here. (http://membership.nrahq.org/default.asp?campaignid=XR025691)
Also, drop some of that ammo money in the CGF (http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/donate.html) bucket so we can continue to enjoy firearms and allow future cloakers to "see the light".

Glad you decloaked and have become enlightened.

It is to bad you had to miss all those years of shooting with your grandfather. Also too bad he didn't hand yo a 22 to shoot for the first time.
