View Full Version : Putting an M&P15-22 in jail tomorrow!

I've been going back and forth and back and forth as to either an M&P15-22 or a .22LR upper. A .22LR upper is roughly $100 more than the M&P15-22, and then I took a peek around at accessories; mainly magazines. The M&P mags are 1/2 the price. I'll be getting the one with the threaded barrel as I just think the plain barrel looks...odd. Going to get the Marlin XT-22YR onto the DROS tomorrow as well so I'm only paying the fee once. I can't wait! Too excited! Good thing I was "done" for the year after I bought the 4 AR lowers, and then the XT-22YR, lol! :D

Chances are you won't regret it. I'm jealous of your XT.

This is the one now in jail:

Thanks loosewreck! I've got an updated picture of my XT-22 somewhere. The XT-22Y is going to be a clone for my 8 y/o daughter. She loves the bolt action, so I thought it'd make a good surprise for her efforts in working extra hard to catch up in school. She just found out she is getting it tonight when they brought it out with the M&P to put them on the DROS. She had an ear-to-ear smile and wouldn't leave the counter until it was put back in the box. :D

ETA: Found the picture, though, it doesn't have the bipod or sling anymore.

I just put a S&W M&P 15-22 in jail also :) I got the MOE version at my local Sportsman Warehouse.

I"m curious if my old M261 AR15 conversion mags will work on it.

I thought about the MOE, but I don't care for the MBUSs. I would like to get an OD stock, grip and ladder rails though.

I got one when they first came out. I love it and it is always the most popular gun on our range trips.

Shoots great and no problems with it. All I use in it is Winchester Federal bulk stuff from Walmart.

Do these guns run CCI Blazer pretty good too, anyone know? That's what I'm stocked up on as my other .22s love it best.

I've shot 1000s of rounds of CCI Blazer. That is my 15-22's favorite ammo over Winchester M-22, Federal Bulk, and others.

I just put one in the jailhouse as well this evening...I bought the "basic" non MOE version but I'm already looking at adding some "dark earth" goodies to it :D

Turners has both versions on sale right now

Good to hear! I'm sure it'll be fine in mine as well!

I got the non-MOE version as well. I'm thinking OD for mine down the road. :)

So when is the jail break??? :D I pick up my S&W M&P 40 tomorrow...woot! Can't wait to hit the desert this weekend with that and a Mossberg 500. Been a long long long long time since I've squeezed a trigger with a resulting BANG! At least with the Mossberg I know I'll hit something ;) The 40? Could be interesting...I'm hoping it's not.

Sunday night at 6:19PM, but I'll be at work. So, I'll be heading down as soon as I wake up Monday morning! I'm 99.9% sure I'll have Labor Day off now, so I'll spend it shooting the 15-22!

Congrats on the M&P 40! I rather like my .40 cal handgun. The round does have some snap, but I do fine with it. I'll be looking at the M&P Shield for my next handgun. Not sure if I want to go with a 9mm or stick with the .40S&W (seems kind of fitting to get the .40S&W for the S&W handgun). I'll cross that road when I get there I suppose.

Is your gun shop going to be open on Labor Day? I know Turners will be closed so you may want to check unless you already have...

Hey, just an FYI...Outdoor Gear Barn has a ton of Magpul products at good prices. They had everything I wanted in flat dark earth at good prices. Ordered Wednesday night and they shipped out Thursday afternoon.

Have fun on Monday...hope you like it!

Enjoy brothers! As many have said, their 15-22 is one of the most enjoyable guns they shoot. Mine is no different.

Congrats!!

Put mine in jail along with it's big brother (S&W M&P 15 ORC) last Friday. Gonna have to flip a coin to see which one gets shot first.

Just picked ours up yesterday. Everyone in the office went nuts over it (mostly because it's lightweight). It really seems to be a quality piece, AR-like in most ways except of course there is no gas system. The FCG even looks like a standard AR. In terms of operation and manual of arms, this will be exactly like an AR.

While it's nice that the fake receiver extension tube can accept aftermarket milspec buttstocks like Vltor, Magpul and LMT, it's a minor bummer it won't accept a real receiver extension. There's no easy way to set up a single point sling.

This will obviously be the most popular rifle on the line for our monthly company fun shoots. That makes me happy because it's so much cheaper to feed than the ARs.

It is quite light compared to a regular AR, it functions just like one and best of all, there is no bullet button. I can see it being the life of the party on outings. I took it shooting with some other people after I picked it up. One other person and myself both had our 5.56 ARs and I brought the M&P. He shot one magazine through it and said he had to have one, lol. He was asking me where I bought and how much it was because he needed one.

You could pick up a bolt-on sling adapter like this one: https://danieldefense.com/mounts/sling/ez-carbine-qd-swivel-attachment-point.html

Some care would probably have to be taken to make sure it isn't over-tightened on the tube though since it can't be replaced.

I did some color-fill tonight. Started out with paint and it turned out pretty crappy IMO. So, I went the tacti-crayola method and it worked out beautifully. Some quick, not so great pictures:

Does it have a standard ar-15 upper and lower?

They aren't standard, no. But they are separate, yes. There is an upper and a lower.
