A buddy of my dad wants to sell me a couple rifles. One is an unfired 11-87 premeir with hard case. It is very nice no scratches or dings in wood. Includes a tool two separate screw in chokes. I'm not a big shotgun guy so I don't know much about this stuff at all. Date code is pc. Which is June... and there are several year choices it could be 1982 or 2008.. not sure to tell from what year. I have the rifles on hand is there any to tell? He wants $400 for this one shotgun. Is this a deal I should jump on? Thanks!

Yes, buy it if it's in good condition.

Buy it. If you don't like it, I'll give you you're $400 back and tak it off your hands. You have nothing to loose.

It's something that I don't need and money is on the tighter side at the moment, but I like to collect and invest I things only if it's worth it if I really needed too off something's. I do this with old vw parts garage is full of vw "junk" but it all is profit if sold. And thats what I go for. So if it's a $6-700 gun, Id be glad to pay the $400. If it's a $4-500 would not be worth it in my eyes

Well I put 2 and 2 together and it would be 2008 model. Since the first one was made 87... still would like to know more about through gun.
Like I said I'm not a big shotgun guy and would like to know what screw in chokes are for

The 11-87 wasn't introduced until 1987, so the 2008 guess is probably the most accurate. 11-87 Premier and Premier Trap guns can go from $400 up to $750 or more on the secondary market. The "Premier" is mechanically the same gun as every other 11-87, just the finish and furniture are different and significantly better. They are a proven design and very reliable. One need only keep the action clean, just like any other direct gas impingement operated gun.

$400 for an unfired Premier model with a quality hard case is a good deal. $400 for an unfired Premier Trap model is an excellent deal.

The choke tubes regulate the size of the shot pattern at given distances. If this is a Trap model I would guess that the choke tubes are probably Modified and Full. No shotgun that uses screw in choke tubes should ever be fired without one installed.

Well there are two chokes in little plastic cases similar to film bottles. One is Full.. and other is Imp cyl.. if there is a third one inside the gun I have no idea what it is or how to check. I see no "trap" insignia so I'm figuring its just a premier

Also thanks for the info!

Sounds like a good deal to me. A bargain basement Rem 870 pump gun sells for around 300 to 350. The 1187 is far more desirable for trap and skeet and S/C. Brand new condition, what a deal. If I lived closer I'd offer $100 more and still be happy.

Check the Shotgun world . com forum for values.

Great sounds good. There is also a model 94 ranger from early 80s but lever quite sloppy he wants $300 but if he takes $200 I'll do it. Comes with a little ammo too supposedly
