View Full Version : If you were a resident of Louisiana... What would you Buy?

I'm going to be a resident of Louisinana (New LA DL, Physical Address, true resident of the state) for a while. I was wondering, what handguns should I be looking at? I'm thinking about a G23 Gen4, and maybe some off roster S&W D/A revolvers.

I will eventually be moving back to California....

oh, you're coming back? that rules out a lot of fun stuff. I'd buy an STI GP6/Grand Power K100 and some colt or other revolvers. Caspian frames. Any guns that are difficult to SSE are going to be the answers you get. That glock you can SSE easily.

Funny thing. My first two handgun purchases after I left California were a S&W 642, Glock 30. I've also bought two C&R revolvers.
Anyway buy whatever you like not what we like, unless you're inviting everybody over for a range day.

The beauty of not living in a state with stupid restrictions -- like California -- is not having to make plans. When you see something you like you just buy it.

Go shopping and buy whatever you please -- hopefully you'll soon get used to it and it will become your 'normal'.
If you were a resident of Louisiana... What would you Buy?
Why in the world would you return after getting free of the place?
I will eventually be moving back to California....

I would probably want a 7" long slide 1911 of some sort. Maybe an AMT, or maybe go with a nice Detonics 1911. I'd buy 1911's like I'm going to die tomorrow.

Got to finish up law school in California. I'm going to Tulane Law for the Fall semester.

Part time status means I need to become a resident. If I went full time, I could stay a California resident.

Too bad you don't live in Solana Beach. You could go to Direct Action Solutions and get that Infinity SSE there.

Those infinitys are a bit rich for my blood, but I do like the idea of getting some high quality 1911 frames to build up later.

If you like S&W d/a revolvers, get some Colts as well. Colts are difficult to find in CA (except Pythons if you have lots of cash). I'd probably want to pick up Diamondbacks in 22 and 38, Troopers in 22, S&W models 27, 25 and 28.

I would buy a couple 1911 frames.

Bring back some Fusion frames. A lot of guys in CA would love to have a Fusion for a 1911 DIY build

Haven't been there much, eh? The WORST part of Cali beats the best part of Looozeanna climate wise.

This^^^^

The mosquitos are so big they have to file a flight plan.

I was assigned to a temp flying gig in Baton Rouge for 3 months and once saw two Cockroaches raping a Rat.

Humidity is about 100% all day, all night. The seafood is outstanding however.

I would buy something you couldn't single shot here. Like some awesome 1911 Frames which are near impossible to get.

JMO

Good luck to you.

If I wasn't planning on coming back to CA I'd SBS a Saiga 12 and name her Vera. I'd also do a Krink in 5.45x39 and SBR an AR. Silencers are very cool too. You know, you don't have to come back to CA, I hear Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona are nice.

You also need to buy lots and lots of plastic bead necklaces.

I call it my singular expression of freedom from the tyranny of California's 10 round limit :-). I agree with the impracticality, but as a range toy, its a lot of fun.

On the topic of 1911 frames, I am a bit of a noob. My experience is currently a cheap Kimber that shoots halfway decent. So Far, I have heard of Caspian and Fusion. Are there any other Frames I should be looking at? If I were to build up one in 10mm, which should I go with?

Thanks

This may not be as applicable now, but when I first moved to the Gulf Coast it was shortly after Katrina, and like the Katrina cars and motorcycles there's Katrina guns too.

I was visiting a gun shop and there was an excellent prelock 686 specimen with a satin finish and a great price. However, upon further inspection the metal in between the crane and the frame was severely pitted. Turned out the gun was found in a flooded out boat and the shop had refinished the whole piece, except for the parts you couldn't see.

Thanks for the advice, I've already passed over a couple of used colt and S&W revolvers due to pitting I could see, I'll make sure to closely inspect anything before I buy it.
