Just plunked down my deposit for a new Les Baer Custom Carry 1911 in Blue.

10 day wait...try 16 weeks. :(

But it'll be worth it!

I tried the demo model and damn those things are tight!

Thanks!

Actually, I also emember a documentary on the Outdoor channel where they toured his facility and showed them being made. The craftsmanship was impressive.

I will be beside myself with anticipation in about a couple of weeks. :43:

I own a Thunder Ranch and a Custom Carry. I have shot the Thunder Ranch. It is tight, accurate, and very sweet. I am holding the Custom Carry to sell as new next year. These 1911's are definitely top shelf and capable of very small groups. Better than I can shoot on a normal day. Grats on your purchase and shoot the hell out of it when it is finally home. :)

Congrats! Baers are great guns. Distinct in their no-BS, built-to-run philosophy.

They only look better as they wear in...

Whats good about US Firearms, you put down a deposit then either you can pay it all off when it comes or pay during the 14 weeks wait

I do not haggle when I'm in love.

:43:

I always haggle on guns. The MRSP for that puppy is what, $1,920.00? I suspect that LBC sells directly to shops without a distributor tier but I really don't know? I wonder what the wholesale cost is? The sales tax alone would be nice to avoid...

You can't beat Crazy John's prices or inventory when it comes to Baers.

wjc
08-18-2012, 6:59 PM
A little less.

As usual, what gets you is taxes and fees.

Doesn't really matter to me, I'm not a haggler by birth. If I like it, cost be damned.

Blame my yuppie, east coast upbringing. :D

Love them all, my first 1911 I shot was a TRS. Too bad my best friend's buddy sold his recently, I was mad he sold it to someone else. I would of bought it in a heartbeat.

I think the wait about be almost pleasurable -- a great deal like foreplay.

Who is this Crazy John guy?

How do these compare to the vaunted Ed Brown offerings? Based on videos I have watched, I rather like Les Baer's style...

I couldn't handle the wait and bought is lightly used TRS with the 1.5" guarantee. No wait (other than the 10 days), no tax, and a little head start on the break-in. I've already shot more than the PO did and I've only owned it for a week! I can say, it shoots better than I do, but I hope to catch up one day.

Les Baer builds his guns with unnecessarily tight slide to frame fit. You can't sling shot some of them out of the box. It's a misnomer that a tight slide to frame fit contributes anything substantial to accuracy. Hilton Yam says about 5% accuracy. Brown, Nighthawk, Wilson are all of standard tightness.

Nice purchase! The only things that bother me on the Baers is the front strap checkering doesn't look that great. It looks a lot cleaner when it's done with a CNC machine and all the serrations on the slide is a little to much.

While I'm not disagreeing that some manufacturers may have excessively tight slide to frame fit, I think it's possible most of the racking difficulty on a new Les Baer comes from their barrel fitting method and very tight barrel lockup. My Springfield Pro has a similar fit barrel to the Les Baers and is just as difficult to rack, but if you remove the barrel the slide moves smoothly on the rails despite no discernable play.

It's interesting that Hilton Yam feels slide to frame fit is 5% whereas Jerry Kuhnhausen felt if was 15%.

Thanks guys!

The checkering on the front of the slide didn't look bad to me so it wasn't an issue. I was actually more concerned with the fit in my hand (kinda big hands).

I tried another one which was too thin for my hand and when I tried the CC it was a perfect fit.

"ring me up, shopkeeper!" :D

Purchased a custom carry a few months ago, this pistol is top notch, accurate and the workmanship is outstanding! Crazy John at 911 heaven, has them in stock, great prices and services!. He is a direct Les Baer dealer, can get anything you want. Presently he has a "blow out" deal on Ed Brown 1911's
