I just bought my first gun ever, a Mossberg 500 "Persuader". I want to go shooting and clays are nice, but ranges seem to have either pistol and rifle areas, and trap/Skeet/clay sides. Where and at what kinds of targets can i/ should I shoot buckshot and slugs? Thanks. Im in Sacramento

Does this model have a buttstock or is it pistolgrip only?
Many outdoor ranges are fine with slugs. Some do allow buckshot if you have your own target frames

That's where I have gone. Just get there early. Don't ask why. Show up after 9:30AM and you will see. Other than that it is good to go.

The Gun Room in Elk Grove allows both. I think there are only a couple of targets they allow for shotgun and they sell them there. I believe their biggest rule was no "head shots" because they don't want you hitting the clips, wire system, or ceiling.

Yolo Sportsmen's Association allows slugs. I have seen them turn people away with pistol grip shotguns (I see you have a stock). They don't mind if you shoot targets in their wooden frames, but apparently will charge you if you hit them. I have never seen this enforced but I've never seen people intentionally tearing up the frames.
