Hey all,

Just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone here for all the great information available to a first time gun owner such as myself.

As for some background info, I've always been interested in guns and I've done some shooting before but that was well over 10 years ago and with everything that goes on in life I never got around to purchasing the dream AR15 that I've always wanted. When I met my girlfriend 5 years ago and I briefly mentioned that I was into guns and wanted to own my own AR at some point and she said she wasn't against it but wasn't necessarily comfortable with the idea either but it was my call.

Well fast forward to a few weeks ago after she did some research and saw the large number of sex offenders, including several violent offenders, in our neighborhood as well as a shooting not too far away and she had a change of heart when I told her it was about time we get a handgun for home defense. Our neighborhood isn't the greatest but it definitely wasn't this bad 6 months ago and we still have about 6 months left on our lease so she agreed to visit a shooting range and gun shop with me to give it a go. I also told her she's probably just nervous because she's never handled a firearm and that we would do things the right way with shooting classes so she could learn as well. She was nervous at first when we were at the local gun shop just doing some window shopping but she got a small rush out of holding several glocks, sigs and even an AR. A few days later we made a trip to a local shooting range and she had a blast and finally gave me the go ahead to buy a hand gun for home defense purposes. Heck she even wants to take some tactical shooting classes with me now and wants her own handgun!

So this leads me up to yesterday when we both went to visit a local gun shop to once again compare a Glock 17 Gen 4 to a Sig P226 which we both shot at the range to see which we both would like best. I figured she might have liked the Glock more because of the weight, while I liked the Sig because of it's ergonomics and surprisingly she agreed that she liked the Sig better as well. Well before I knew it, I was taking my handgun safety test and somehow even though we had no intention of buying yet I was finishing the DROS process for a brand new SSE Sig P226 Mk25 and will become a first time gun owner in 10 days!

Now all I have to do is stock up on some ammo and find a good shooting instructor for some range time!

Thanks! I seem to have a bad habit of acquiring nasty addicting hobbies (legal of course) as I'm into photography as well. Matter of fact I've been debating about selling one of my high end camera bodies for a Daniel Defense M4 V5 that I've been eying since my gf gave me the go ahead to finally purchase one!

I have a Del-ton AR-15 and love it. AR-15/m4 are fun rifles IMO.

Thanks! A friend of mine has a 20 yr old P226 that he still shoots. Pretty much one of the reasons that swayed me towards the P226 aside from ergonomics.

Congratulations on your new gun and welcome to the forums. As I sometimes do, I will post a link to DOJ handbook. It is 2007 edition, most of it still applies.

Hah Thanks. Actually I think my next one will actually be whatever my gf wants. So far she really likes the Sig so maybe another one or some variety of it or possibly an AR15 of some sort if she doesn't want her own handgun at the moment.

welcome.

Thank you.
