Picked up my first 10/22 today. I've wanted one for years. My 10/22 started life as a wood stock/blue barrel model. My friend bob gave me his black stock to use till I buy another stock. Plan on a bull barrel as well. Any recommended/must have upgrades?

Nice. I'm looking to get a 10/22 as well since I have people ask me to teach them how to shoot. The decked out AR-22 just isn't a good option for that.

From what I have read the extended magazine release makes your life way easier.

congratulations on your 10/22. for many, the Ruger can provide satisfaction as is from the factory. for others, it can be made to fly them to the moon; aftermarket support is long reaching for this rifle.

Congrats on your purchase. The extended mag release and the auto bolt release would be the first 2 upgrades you would want to do. Easy to do and will make it that much easier to enjoy shooting with.

Forgot to add.

Some extra mags and a tri mag adapter would make for some great accessories too.

Trigger work is a must on the 10/22. Otherwise a great little rifle.

I switched my extractors to VQ's (Volquartsen), otherwise stock.

If you have a dremel, the bolt catch mod only takes a few min and greatly improves the shooting experience.

I've looked into the bolt catch mod. I'm gonna do it soon. I've got some needle files,

Freethemouse, yes, that is a legally acquired bx25 magazine.

yes, that is a legally acquired bx25 magazine. But how can you legally use it in CA?

In California, you can't sell, manufacture or import hi cap mags, I thought. How did you acquire without violating that?

Bass Pro Shops Sells a Mag that looks like a 25 but in fact only holds 10. Caught myself and another guy by surprise until we read the package :(

pre ban mags can be replaced with new rebuild kits as long you destroy the old pre ban.

Congratz, I have my first 10/22 in jail, its release date is 8/26. I am psyched to have finally purchased one!

I was rummaging through some junk one day and found the mag. Didn't import, buy, or manufacture the mag. Finding is a legal way of aquiring a magazine. So I bought a 10/22 to fit the mag I had.

Nice choice!

A Volquartsen auto bolt release and target hammer is a must. I picked them up from MidwayUSA (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/145851/volquartsen-bolt-release-and-target-hammer-ruger-10-22-stainless-steel).
