Looking for something small, discreet, high quality and lockable for day to day carry if needed.

Something similar to those day planner pictures I have seen floating around, having trouble locating a site selling them online.

Ideally would like one that will accommodate a full sized Sig 1911 and a 10rd mag.

Found this but it doesn't have much room for a mag or two...

Check out the Pelican case web site. I recently purchased a pelican # 1470 which is made for a lab top computer. Works well, and looks exactly like what it is - - a computer lap top case. Cut the foam to fit your specific need. Very high quality and built in locks.

Target has a soft first aid case I use, it was 6 bucks. I think it would fit a full size 1911.

My local Walmart has had these the last few weeks. Black. beige, and even PINK !

Four interior Magazine slots. :)

I bought a couple and there holding up just fine. There lockable too. :D

Looks decent, however I think I might like a harder case, not sure.

Thanks for bringing this up. I am looking for something similar. I was hoping for something that was similarly lockable, but didn't scream to everybody else that 'I've got a gun in here'. I got a nice range bag that held just about all of my stuff to go shooting. I had to break out some ammo into my backpack. 400 rounds got HEAVY! LOL! Anyways, saw a few things that were interesting. There are the Galati Gear options. I saw some soft sided bags that held a number of mags too. I can't quite find the link online though and I don't remember the brand. I have one of those smaller gunsafes for the home, but it's a bit too small. Already banged the gun against the latch when I was putting it in. May just opt for a regular home safe. Probably cheaper too.

I was even thinking of something like this: http://audiopile.net/products/Cases/BRC_Briefcases/BRC-001/BRC_briefcase_cutsheet.shtml

Or, maybe cruise the classifieds for a used one similar to this.

But, I thought it just added size, weight and over-the-top-ness to a hopefully nice, small, lightweight, discreet option.

Great idea! I know it's not the most secure thing on the planet, but it looks like it will fit the bill perfectly! At least for what I am looking for.

Thanks!

Those lock boxes are overpriced everywhere...

Buy from the actual manufacturer and save almost $15 plus discounts for bulk:

Lifetime warranty, I had an issue with a hinge after nearly 3 years of use and Patrick sent me one for free in 3 business days.

just curious how the CoM version differs from the ones made by GunVault? are they TSA-approved? it does appear that the CoM version allows you to buy multiples keyed-alike, which is a nice bonus!

i picked up a NV200 a while back since it seems like a decent and more manageable size for a single pistol + 1 spare mag (maybe two if you squeeze them in), but i don't think i could get multiples keyed-alike without some effort.

I just bought one of the gun vaults. Not a fan. I think I am going to return it. It is too skinny to reach in there quickly and pull the pistol out without hitting the latch. The bigger ones get more and more expensive too. Would be better off buying a normal safe.

The other ones are more clamshell style and you won't have that problem. At least in a convenient size that you could take with you.

Just my 2 cents.

There is no difference. CoM, AFAIK, makes the boxes for GunVault (who profits by selling at a higher price).

I've flown many times with my CoM box. It's lockable and hard-sided, so it meets requirements.

The other thing thatI didn't like about the nano vaults was that it won't secure the contents from moving around inside

Well I have a pair of the gunvaults (I think they are both 300's). I can fit my glock 17 with a magazine in it (its out when I transport it) 2 other magazines, and my surefire X300. The other fits my 1911 and 3 or 4 Mags depending on hos I load them into it.

Huh? mine totally does.

I meant that they will move around inside the safe if. The foam won't keep them in place. At least with the one I bought. I just ordered the center of mass item. We'll see how it works.

Thanks!

I just got this a few weeks ago. Nice, small and simple. Versatile if need be. It can go in my trunk or in the range bag too. I typically keep it attached in the house in an undisclosed location. But, beyond a full on safe, this is a good inexpensive alternative.

AS long as we are throwing out various carry options. I have one of these, and it's great. I don't carry my gun in it, but I could.

Is there a rule governing the type of lock used to secure the container?

Cool! Very much like a bug out bag option-a small one though.

IF you did bring your pistol in that, you would have to be careful that it doesn't fall under a conceal carry(unless you're licensed). I guess its similar to carrying a pistol in a brief case or purse-which as I understand, is a big no-no. Others with more knowledge may want to weigh in on the matter.

As for the lock, I've been using a luggage lock for my soft bag that I carry the pistol to & from the house and range. So far, I have not seen any specifics for the type of lock when you travel with a pistol between home and range etc.
