If I shipped my barrel in one box and the rest of the firearm in another is it legal if I send it to a non FFL? Last year I shipped my over/under in 3 pieces in the same box to a non ffl but I'm sure that was probably not kosher.

Go to the FFL forum, but the basics are:
The receiver or serialized part is considered the firearm. You can ship everything except the serialized receiver. Even though it is a stripped receiver, the feds still classify it as the firearms and must be transfered in the legal way.
