Ok I have a mossberg 500 12ga with the 20 1/2 in barrel. Its the security model and holds 7+1. The magazine tube goes all the way to the top of the barrel.
I want to get a second barrel that is 28in, is there going to be a problem with a new barrel sizing up to the longer magazine tube? I haven't seen any 28in barrel on a security model, maybe there is. Most of the ones i see only hold 5 in the tube making the hook up farther down.

What do you think?

thanks

99% sure they do not make a 28" barrel that works on the extended tube 500 model. You would have to buy the shorter tube, spring and the barrel to make it work. That may be an option for you, or you could just buy one of the $300 18.5" and 28" combos from Big5.

Your model won't be able to accommodate a 28" barrel without swapping out the magazine tube for a 5 rounder.

You guys are both wrong but its not that uncommon. This is a real random thing to look for.
Yes I have answered this before because someone helped me. Pass it on down the road.

You want:
12
90241
28" VENT RIB PORTED
ACCU-SET
BLUE (8-shot)
$133

Price may be a bit higher but cheaper than a new gun, but always a good excuse to buy a new gun!

No way! Thanks for this post, I never checked the maverick side. I just might have to pick one of those up now.

Mossberg / Maverick barrels are always cheapest (for brand new) from the factory. Ten bucks or more under every internet retailer I check. I've bought the most recent barrel for my 500 direct from Mossberg, not a problem.

to mount a 28 inch barrel you will need to replace the mag tube with a 5 round mag and spring.
