View Full Version : Who here has Glockoma? Bought my first Glock Today!

I finally gave in and bought a Glock 19 9mm. It's my 2nd Pistol, my first is a Kimber TLE II. I needed a more cost effective range gun since I do not reload.

I went for the Gen 3, hope there is nothing wrong with that. I did not see the point "for me" to SSE a Gen 4. I also looked at a M&P9 and a HK p2000, both were awesome nonetheless and may be a future purchase. Also thinking about a CZ P-01"very hard to find at the moment".

What attracted me to the G19:
-It is a great size
-Straight to the point
-Track Record
-Great reset on the trigger
-Sight/bore axis fits me really well.
-Plus Hickok45 loves glock, and he is my Hero. ;)

I bought the G19 for 530$ before Tax/Dros at Turners, if you are wondering how much I paid.

Did I do ok? Any Tips/Advice?
Just Leave it stock and shoot the crap out of it?
What type of 9mm commercial ammo do you recommend?
Stock sights, hold 12 o'clock high or 6 o'clock low?

Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblling!:D

NICE CHOICE! Just shoot the crap out of it for now, worry about mods & all that later. Master that trigger. I paid about the same. Let us know if you get brass to the face. Magazines!

Oh, and the "25 cent trigger job" will expedite the "break-in" process. I shouldn't say break-in, it just helps smoothen the pretravel on the trigger a bit.

No Glockcoma here. I do suffer from anti Glock syndrome though. The only thing that helps is to go run a couple hundred rounds through one of my 1911s.

Nope. I've worked at a range that rented them. I've shot just about every model (not Gen 4s) and my short stubby fingers just don't like double stacked handguns. That said, I do own a $365 G21. But, I definately shoot 1911s a lot better than any plastic brick.

Short fingers definitely seem to be the deal breaker when it comes to double stacks. I have long piano fingers and they work wonders for me, but I still shoot my 1911 better. Go figure.

Only 3 Glocks here. Doc says it is still recoverable with high doses of 1911, but I'm less optimistic.

??? I carry 8 +1 in a aluminum framed 1911.:p But, I could always use a 1911 snail drum and have more firepower than a Glock with a 32-33 round mag.:p

A) Shoot a couple hundred rounds out of it, then do a $.25 trigger job (http://www.alpharubicon.com/mrpoyz/glock/).

B) Don't put $500 of customization into it until you have shot the crap out of it. We Internet Commandos will tell you it needs this cool accessory, or it needs that zippy modification. It might, but you should really put rounds down range with it in stock form to figure out for yourself what things it needs or doesn't need.

I think everyone has their own "configuration" that they like best. What works for one, doesn't for another, so I agree...shoot a ton and decide what you'd like to change after you have some good trigger time with it.

I love my gen 4 G19 and all you need to do is shoot it, it is great. I had some custom magazine base plates and a custom back plate made but that was just for me. I also had night sights installed. I will get cr#p for saying this but I can shoot it better then my Les Baer TR Special, andno I am not going to sell my Baer.

Sounds like you are True 1911 man. I respect that platform as it was one of my primary responsibilities as a GMG in the Surface Fleet.

That said, are you considering letting that G21 go?.. Why subject your stubby fingers to anymore strain?..

I am definetely a glock fan. Own a 21, two 19s and probably going to add a 26 or two. My only steel pieces are my prelock Smith wheelguns.

If you have a Gen 3, there's no problem running it bone stock, but if you want get creative check out the following:

Ghost drop in trigger connectors
DPM triple recoil springs (similar to the G4 springs for felt recoil reduction)

I also recommend crossbreed IWB holsters, and get a 4-1 armorer's tool. You can pretty much figure out what you're doing with the manual, or you can take the basic armorer's course (check the website).

who's the noob now?

Anyone who doesn't know where to get a reliable 1911 for $600ish.:p

I paid $600 for my Kimber Classic and $365 for my G21. I'm a cheap SOB who jumps on good deals but, I've yet to see Glocks for less than $300 each. Sounds like you just need to learn to shop better.

I paid $450 for my Nickel Plated Sissy Rock Island Tactical with 3 Mags. It has given me far less problems than my Gen 4 Glock 35. To make my Glock 35 useable I had to do the following:

1. Matched Dawson Precision Sights.
2. Aftermarket Recoil Spring Guide Rod.
3. 15 & 17 lb recoil springs.
4. Lighter Spring set.
5. Smooth Grip Force Adapter
6. KKM Stainless Steel barrel.

this is a GLOCK thread.

And 300ish is half of 600ish so check your math!

just picked up my glock 36 today from ammo bros. Cant wait to get it all tricked out with glockworx goodies :D

It's a Glock thread? Really? Are you sure? Are you trying to tell me that I have'nt posted about my Glock in this thread? How old are you? Did they teach you "new math" in school? I might just be a bit older than you because my math (without adding any of the "ish" crap you want to include) ends up at over 60% not the 50% you want it to be. Again, This thread is about Glockoma not Glocks.:p Is Glock Coma really that far off? Can't you handle the fact that not everyone thinks that Glocks are the end all be all? Hell, I have yet to be impressed with a Glock and I've handle a lot of them. I've seen Glocks experience catastrophic failures like slides flying back and hitting the shooter in the face. I've repaired many Glocks so, I know that they do break. Anyway, have fun with your new over worked/ over priced Glock. As long as you enjoy it, that's all that should matter. However, I bet you're going to come back and tell me that you're highly modified Glock is only worth half of a reliable 1911 (1/2 of $450 for a RRA 1911 right) and, fits every hand better than a 1911 and, everyone shoots it better than a 1911 and.......

I prefer shooting 147 gr. over 115 gr. bullets. Any major manufacturer and factory reloads will be fine out of your pistol. The only ammo issues I had was BVAC reloads... It ran, but accuracy was pretty inconsistent.

Fairly safe to say we caught the disease you mentioned.

It's a cunning & powerful disease. I had a close call trying out a friend's 19(c) with worked trigger. He had bought it that way & didn't know what had been done but it was pretty sweet. Glock ergos seem to work for me and this particular one was a ragged hole tackdriver.

It wasn't for sale or the whole affair could have ended pretty tragically.:43:

Glock 19 is a great gun. I have put 6,800 rounds through one without a single problem of any kind. I am starting a DROS on another G19 tomorrow. This is the easiest and most fun to shoot gun I own, not to mention very accurate. I like the Beretta the HK the 1911 and the M&P all are quality guns, but the Glock is every bit the gun as these.

I use to be one of those people that would walk by a Glock even if the price was very good. Then I tried one because a friend asked me to and I put the first few rounds in a tight little group. I bought a G19 the next day. It is not a gun everyone likes but it is one of the best shooters around and it absolutely rock solid reliable. Enjoy your new gun and I agree just go shoot it a lot before you change anything. I put night sights on mine after about 500 rounds but everything else is stock.
