Ca does allow 50 BMG... just not 50 BMG rifles.

anything that is not a rifle though 50bmg is allowed. Why do they ban 50 BMg rifles? they are stupid

I think CA is the only state that has a specific 50BMG rifle ban

It's a boner of a law. So they came out with 50 DTC, CA legal.

Planes are still not falling out of the sky, and the 1 mile kill shots still aren't happening.

Build or buy yourself a M2HB or M3HB. (semi, of course)

You can't buy 50BMG ammo in LA proper, but...it's legal most other places.

I think they have a shield up that won't let you cross into LA City property with the 50BMG ammo. Your car will just stop!

Kind of like bringing a gun to a school. There's a force-field that goes with the laws. Right?

Most free states allow them, CA considers the 50bmg rifle a destructive device.

I'm sure corner stores get held up with 50bmg's too much so CA had to outlaw them:D

I actually hate the serbu 50 they are local to me in Tampa FL. I do really like the 870 super shorty they manufacture! The fit and finish of their 50 isn't up to par with me as far as aesthetics go.

California is the only state that has banned the .50 BMG cartridge. Gov Schwarzenegger signed this law into effect in 2004. The premise of the ban was based on the (false) theory that the proliferation and use of rifles that used the .50 BMG round posed a " terrorist threat" and threat to the health and safety of all California residents. To date, no rifle using the .50 BMG cartridge has even been used in a terrorist attack, nor used in a crime in California, or the United States.

Couldnt you put a single shot 50bmg upper onto a ar15 lower with no stock? it isnt considered as rifle per definition of a rifle.

Or is owning any part of a rifle that is capable of chambering a 50 bmg is illegal? and the round is ok.

If it isn't a 50 BMG rifle, you are good to go. AOW, crew served, whatever as long as it isn't a rifle chambered in 50 BMG .

Mine are not a threat to baby condors because my check cleared.

50BMG rifle are not illegal in Ca. You guys really need to STOP SPREADING FUD. It is just not possible for the average Joe to aquire one today. It is legal to own them, use them, non Ca residents can bring them into the state for sanctioned matches, etc. in all other states, they are just like they used to be here, just another rifle, nothing special.

So I can pick up a 50 BMG single shot AR 15 upper, remove the stock, and ill be gtg?

Yep, it's been done. But, I'd rather just get a upper in DTC. In fact, even though I have registered lowers to use, my next 50 upper will most likely be chambered in DTC.

Like I said. In 49 states 50BMGS are just regular rifles.

As far as I know there is no law on 50 BMG ammo, as long as it is not AP, Tracer, or API. You can have it shipped to California. I know people here that had them before the ban and still shoot them. Chabot Gun Club allows 50 BMG on Monday only, and other ranges allow it.

CA has no law concerning .50 BMG ammo. Perfectly legal to buy and own all you want. PC 30530 (http://law.onecle.com/california/penal/30530.html) makes .50 BMG rifles the equivalent to 'assault weapons', and penalizes unregistered possession and sales to non-exempt people.

PA, IN, KY, TX, SC, MS, & NC. I lived in - and owned firearms - in all those states, and the .50 was legal when I was there. :D

50 cal AP haven't been made since Korea. The surplus just dried up a few years ago. I used to pay less for AP than for ball.

Plenty of other 50s out there that shoot straighter for a lot less money. There are reasons that Barretts do not win or even place at matches. They are far from "precision rifles".

Just buy a 50DTC fro Bohica with a regular AR15 lower. Its is 100% legal in California and you cant get any trouble for it.
I have 1 and take it to the range often. Quick note. Its an expensive toy.

That's because the 50bmg goes for like $12000 and like $6 - $10 per round not your average Joe can afford this.

Maria Kennedy Shriver Schwartzenegger told Arnold if he didn't pass an anti-firearm law, he'd have to get his sex from the maid. So he passed the .50 rifle law...and it turned out that he liked the maid too.

Nice! Had not seen those before.

And for all the folks new to big bore stuff in CA, please repeat after me:

1. ".50 BMG ball and AP rounds are completely legal in CA."

2. "Alternate +/- 50 cal ammo (.416 Barrett, 460 Steyr,50 DTC) rifles are completely legal in CA."

3. "Non rifles (long guns not designed to be fired from the shoulder) in .50 BMG are completely legal in CA (M2/M3, Dshk chambered in .50 BMG)."

Now print them out and read daily....

The CITY of Los Angeles has a local ordinance against the sale of .50cal ammo (I'm an 06FFL and cannot ship to the CITY proper for normal customers, but can ship to another FFL) Otherwise, any place outside the city is fine.

BOHICA Arms is out of business.
AR conversion uppers can be had from
ALS - http://www.50bmg.net
SpiderFirearms - http://www.ferret50.com

SafetyHarborFirearms.com used to make them, but don't know the current status

Purpose built DTC rilfes are offered by:

http://www.statearms.com
http://www.serbu.com
http://www.bluegrassarmory.com
http://www.anzioironworks.com
http://www.dierksind.com/

You can still buy M2/M3 beltfed guns and shoot either .50BMG or .50DTC with a conversion barrel if you desire.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but it appears you really need to read some of the faqs on Calguns and the CA gun laws. Start with the assualt weapons flow chart, the link at the top of the page when you come to calguns.

That's because the 50bmg goes for like $12000 and like $6 - $10 per round not your average Joe can afford this.

When it was $1 per round, planes still weren't falling out of the sky. It was a useless "oh no this looks scary!" law passed with no justification.

The rifles have always been expensive for obvious reasons.
