View Full Version : Open Carry still Legal for Long Guns?

so I was talking to a friend who was informed by a sheriff at a Gun-show that he could open carry his handgun which convinced him to buy a compact 9mm when he's on his motorcycle rides. I informed him that (to my knowledge) Handguns were still illegal to open carry, but I had no idea that it was still legal to open carry long guns since I thought it was for all firearms. Not that I would open carry a long-gun even though I know it's within my rights, but something I'd thought was worth mentioning......of course, I'm a newbie to the world of Firearms.

Any insight would be appreciated.....and if this thread has already been discussed. Please link me and close this one off. Thank you!

They are thinking that he was referring to long-guns and there was a miscommunication in their conversation.

Did the officer mean at the show or in public?

See response#4

Most likely a miscommunication between citizen and LEO
