CALNRA: New volunteer position - NRA/CalGuns.net Liaison
6:45 AM, 6/8/2007 - PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY
Successful groups exhibit certain characteristics that define their success. They will adapt to difficult circumstances and grow to meet new challenges. Among our midst is a special individual that responds to the needs of his cause, who "steps up" when the situation dictates to preserve what has been built and actively works to improve it.
"The only constant is change." Understanding that adage and not fighting it is crucial in adjusting to the ever-changing demands of protecting the Second Amendment in this beleaguered state.
Today brings change. As my role as Electronic Communications Director for the NRA Members' Councils of California consumes more of my available time, we have elicited the help of a fellow calgunner to serve as a NRA/CalGuns.net Liaison to insure a steady, reliable flow of information to the valued activists of this forum.
This volunteer has always shown themself eager to help maintain the forward momentum we have worked hard to establish in the past year and a half. In this new capacity, this person will post the info to calguns.net just as I have done. I am particularly pleased to announce the calgunner that has generously volunteered for this role... (drum roll)...
ca_brit
As you may well know, 'ca_brit' is a long-time supporter of CalGuns.net, a dedicated NRA member and actively involved with the NRA Members' Council of Silicon Valley (http://calnra.com/cgi-bin/haasmcshowwebpage.cgi?mc=siliconvalley).
Please note that 'ca_brit' has created a new calguns user account - CALIFORNIA_NRA_INFO - under which he will post all NRA information. (This was ca_brit's idea and we think it a good one!)
I'd like to personally thank ca_brit for accepting this important role at this crucial time. With all the activity in Sacramento, please support him in keeping the "calguns" part of California informed by further spreading the word as far as you can. And while I won't be able to visit calguns as often as I'd like, I will maintain my account, check in from time to time and standby to help ca_brit whenever needed. We will continue to help each other help NRA.
For those subscribed to my "Forum Army", there will be no change in operation.
Thank you all for your support and cooperation with NRA.

congrats cal_nra!
And mike, has this ever been done before? A NRA appointed liason who's primary job is the interaction with a forum?

No, it hasn't. In fact, while there hasn't been an official appointment, what we've been doing since about April of last year - the close coupling of NRA/forum activities - is absolutely unprecedented and leading edge. Who'da thunk it? :-)
I've said it before and recently - this has happened here (ONLY) because calgunners are FOCUSED. Differences of opinion exist, but the goal seems to stay clear - to win - with an understanding that we can only do that if we fight together, hard and SMART. (we need all three)
Of course, evolution would dictate that we go on to establish liaisons on other forums too - have a "CAL_NRA" on highroad, ar15, etc - but for now, let's concentrate on making sure we have a working, successful model here. The job at hand...

It may be incentive for other forums to become more "focused" and become able to support this kind of advanced relationship. (or at least progress to where they don't bash Californians just for trying to spread the word on their forums to protect our rights too.)

"The Brit is coming! The Brit is coming!" Heard echoing down the halls of DOJ in Sactown this morning.
Congrats CaBrit/Peter.

Thank God he changed his name to CAL_NRA. We kicked those British bastards out a long time ago and I wasn't too excited about letting them back in again. However, it seems the ones that have been coming in lately are the types we want as they recognize The Queen has nothing for them anymore and they just want bush! I mena Laura Bush.
Good deal.

I'm really grateful for this opportunity to give back to the 2nd amendment.
Ironically, it is almost ten years ago that I was ordered to walk into a British police station and surrender my Glock 17 as part of the British Government's handgun confiscation. I don't want anyone else here to experience that feeling. If we work together we won't. The British gun owners simply did not have an organization like the NRA.
I'm impressed with how Calguns and the NRA have collaborated over the last year and hope that we can take that to an even higher level. Mike has left big shoes to fill! Lets fill them!

Love to hear more about the whole process. I think it would maybe jolt at least one or two fence sitters back to reality. Hope they at least gave you a bottle of Bovril for the exchange......j/k:D

I guess this is a bad time to mention that I have been attending some PETA meetings and have embraced the true philosophy of peace.
As of July 1st Calguns will be an animal rights forum dedicated to non-violence and soft furry critters.
KIDDING!! KIDDING! Put down the rotten vegetables!!! :D
Congrats ca_brit!!
Hopefully this will turn in to a model that will spread like fire! The internet is a massively powerful tool and we need to be using it in every way we can.
Calguns is here to stay and in the fight for the duration, bring it on!

Thanks for announcing the CAL_NRA userID ahead of time, it is nice to know where the information is flowing from. It sounds like a very good idea also.

We had a request from a special friend that we instead use CALIFORNIA_NRA_INFO - ca_brit agreed so, it's done!
Just don't call 'im late for dinner, ok? :-)

This article provides a really good read:
http://www.davekopel.com/2a/LawRev/SlipperySlope.htm
The large process followed the plan the antis are trying here. It was the incremental removal of gun rights one "sensible" law at a time. The final push came when the Blair got elected with a large majority and gun owners had been neatly divided.
One day the letter came with an appointment time to show up at the local police station and surrender all registered handguns. What hurt me at the time was how weak and divided British gun owners were. There was nothing like the NRA there.
Before we get too tough on Europe, I just read a report from Gabe Suarez on his training in Italy last month. He noted that Italians are allowed to own AKs and ARs so Italians have more rights than Californians! When I was in England last summer I got to shoot a 50 cal which are still legal there.
