Thought this was interesting:

Republicans Losing Support from Sportsmen

A new poll of registered hunters and anglers found that sportsmen voted for President Bush over John Kerry by more than a 2-to-1 margin in 2004. However, in 2006 the poll found that two parties tied for their support -- Republicans took 36% and Democrats got 35%.

Key finding: The biggest reason Republican sportsmen voted Democratic in 2006 was because of the "conservation platform of a specific candidate." Conversely, Democratic sportsmen who supported Republicans cited guns rights as their main reason. Overall, sportsmen told pollsters that they were looking for pro-gun, pro-conservation candidates.

Contrary to what a lot of people think, there are a lot of Democrat gun owners out there, I am one and I know quite a few others, and none of us are any happier with the ridiculous state of gun laws in this country than any of the republican gun owners.

Thing is, most of us don't talk an awful lot about it (well I do, but everybody around here knows I'm a gun nut) because you're automatically gonna get crapped on by either the far left anti-gun, granola-swilling kooks who expect you to think just like them, or you're gonna get it from the far-right, pro-gun, no government, black helicopter, Montana Militia kooks who hate everyone who can even spell the word democrat correctly!

However, in the privacy of the voting booth, more and more people are voting for more and more middle of the road candidates that are capable of appealing to the moderates of both parties.

We have seen quite a few pro-gun dem's get elected at state and local level, and it will take a while to work up to the national level, no doubt about it, but I seriously believe that gun control is a losing issue for the democrats - and those were the words used by Mark Warner, immediate past governor of Virginia, and someone I suspect we will see running on a national level in the next few cycles.

Hey! I can spell Democrat! :p

My best friend is a gun toting Dem. Though he's stated that if Hillary gets the nod, he's officially dropping the party out of protest. He told me, "If the best the two parties can come up with over the past 20 years is Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton, I'm going 'independent'."

Have you seen the article in the new issue of SWAT magazine - "40 Ways You Know Your Country is No Longer Free." I read this article and it was very sobering.
You know things in America have come to a scary place when a cops' magazine is sounding the alarm...
