Hi all,

I've been lurking in these forums for about a month now and thought I'd introduce myself even though it's unlikely I'll post all too much. I'm new to firearms and can count the number of times I've been to a range on my hands with a few fingers left over. That being said, I'd like to purchase a firearm of my own to take to the range and get better at firing as well as becoming more familiar and comfortable with handguns overall.

Had a few questions that I'm not sure I should post somewhere else, but I'll give them a try here.

1) Saw a few members post about the Ruger SR9C as a great conceal handgun. I have small hands, so I like the smaller size and I'm a lefty so I really like the ambi controls. However, it looks like it originally made it's debut a couple years ago. Am I right in thinking that it would be hard to find now?

2) I'll probably make American Shooting Center in SD my home range and get a membership but only because it's the only place I shot. Anyone else have any recreations in the San Diego area? Anyone have a bad experience there?

3) Eventually I'd like to try my hand at owning and learning to use a carbine and a precision rifle. Are there any places to shoot either? For the carbine I guess out to 300 yards? Which place would be the best place to take classes on either?

Sorry, a lot of questions. As I said, I've been lurking for a while now.

Anyway, hello and enjoy your week!

Welcome to Calguns.

1. I think they should be around. Gun sales are up due to politics so supply might be a bit short at the moment. I believe Turner's has them on sale every so often and I have seen them listed here in the private firearms sales section.

2. Dunno, I usually go to Iron Sights in Oceanside.

3. I haven't been to them but I have heard folks talk about South Bay Rod & Gun http://www.sbrgc.org/ and P2K Range http://www.p2krange.com/

1) Ruger SR9C can be found around the area.

2) I have heard that Discount Gun Mart (the one off of Morena, not Santee) allows both pistol and rifle and is pretty reasonable.

3) South Bay Rod & Gun Club, or P2K (or you could just join the marines :) )

Thanks Bellts! DGM seems to have a cheaper membership. When I get back into SD I'll check them out.

My brother is a Marine and was stationed out at Pendleton for a while, but I'm too old to join now and wouldn't get past TBS if I could. :p

Welcome!
1. Not much experience with that gun, sorry.
2. ASC is hit and miss for me. If you don't mind a drive, go to ironsights in O'side. If only shooting handguns, Discount Gun in Santee has a fine range, plus they allow up to 9mm pistol caliber rifles.
3. South Bay Rod and Gun is my favorite place EVER! Great RO's; I've yet to come across someone with too large an ego... I can shoot steel case ammo!! Buy a yr membership for $75.
I go several times a month.. Pm if you go some time.

Respect, Survivor
