Don't be discouraged by recent anti-gun bills passing out of the Assembly. Those bills have to go through the same series of committees in the Senate, and every committee is another vote. AND... if not defeated, we will try to force at least one amendment so the bill has to go back to the Assembly and we get even MORE chances to stop it.

If they make it to the governor's desk, remember, last year, Arnold vetoed all the anti-gun bills and signed all the pro-gun bills that made it to his desk.

Lastly, so far this year we have had THREE PRO-GUN BILLS pass UNANIMOUSLY out of the Assembly - all of the anti-bills that have passed have done so BY ONLY ONE VOTE. (Which is a small margin to defeat.)

The pro-gun bills are:

AB 815 HUNTING PROTECTION:

AB 854 PUBLICATIONS:

AB 1645 'KATRINA' FIREARM PROTECTIONS:
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2007&summary=ab1645

Hang in there, folks!

i wonder if we could get an ammendment added to these gun bills...

something that would make the democrats vote no on the bill, just so the little rider ammendment wouldn't pass...

something like "if this bill passes, guns will need microstamping and gay relationships will be banned" or "no internet ammo sales and no social services provided to illegal aliens"...

Nice, and this kinda stuff is possible on Federal level, but California has a 'single subject' law regarding passage of new laws. Road construction or gay marriage elements can't be added to a gun bill or vice versa.

Never say never when it comes to the Gov. He walks his own path.

Awesome, thanks for the encouragement, Mike.

With all the fascist bills moving through the leg & senate this year (not just gun bills) it's easy to get extremely discouraged.

That was added because the folks in the Lege can't keep more than one topic in their heads at a time, mostly. It spares them from having to make complex choices. Keep It Simple Senator! The ones who can do so eventually run for Congress.

Thanks, Mike. As someone already mentioned, it IS easy to get discouraged with the happenings in Sacramento.

BTW, I don't recall ever hearing the results of the 'virtual lobby day' last month while the Brady Campaign were in Sacramento. Did it make ANY difference?

Mike, I like the idea of tacking amendments on to bills. Why doesn't the NRA start tacking on a CCW reform amendment?

"For the purposes of 12050, 'personal protection' shall be considered to meet the good cause requirement."

Yes this would kill the bill (which we want) but it also re-opens the issue of CCW reform, which was last brought before the legislature about ten years ago (http://californiaccw.org/posts/list/4162.page).
