I have a family member that was dropped from a felon to a civil addict. Is there a way he can regain his gun rights?

Um, if he's a civil addict doesn't that mean that he's still considered to be..............an addict? I don't think drug addicts can legally have guns in California.

Yea I know a addict cant legally acquire a gun. This happened 10 years ago and has been clean since day of arrest and did his treatment.

Not sure then if it's been a while. Tell him to call an attorney who does gun law. He may be free and clear.

He's planning on looking into. I was hoping someone here knew anything on the subject.

I would think he should do a Live Scan and request a copy of his criminal record (http://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/security).
That would tell a lot. Unless he already knows and has the paperwork.
I'm reasonably sure that's what an attorney would want to see.

Then there's always the Personal Firearms Eligibility Check (http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/pfecfaqs).
Here's a link: PFEC Application Form (http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/pdfs/firearms/forms/pfecapp.pdf?)

Under present DOJ SOP, he's going to get delayed on a DROS. Best to find out first.
Attorney and/or PFEC.
