Sorry if this is a dupe, did not see it. Intervviews the owner of Bay Area GunVault.

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/California-gun-purchases-nearing-record-3739037.php

Californians just can't get enough guns and are on a pace to set a new annual record for the number purchased legally.

Experts with the state Department of Justice predict residents will buy 725,000 rifles, pistols and shotguns in 2012, nearly twice the number they purchased five years ago, when 370,628 were acquired.

Over the last decade, annual purchases have increased despite the lackluster economy and a dramatic drop in crime.

The state doesn't record the personal history of those who purchase guns, nor their reasons for buying them, so it's hard to pinpoint a reason for the increase, experts say.

There are theories, however.

One suggests that sales spike whenever there is a drumbeat to tighten restrictions on gun sales and ownership.

More people buying guns and less violent crime occurring? Can't be related. No, sir. (sarcasm, by the way)

I also contibuted to the spike in sales with 4 pistols, 2 rifles and a shotgun. Most I've ever purchased in a single year.

That is when I started into the shooting sports (late bloomer). Been buying a lot of firearms over the years, and having my family take beginning classes with me. The ones that enjoy it, get the advanced classes.

I have the article clipped from the paper hanging on my office door.

Two riffles, 1 pistol, 6,000 rounds of ammo. Plan on buying at least one more pistol, a shotgun, and another 6,000 rounds before the end of the year.:D

As the article puts it, people keep buying guns "despite" falling crime rates :p

Semantics. As gun purchasing and ownership has risen we've seen a drop in crime, look at the chart above. :p:p (double!)

There is never a time when gun stores are not packed these days, at least in San Diego. My liberal buddy also just bought an AR. People are enthused, much to the dismay of politicians.

Hahahaha! What the hell is this???? One of the first times I've ever seen the word "magazine" used in a news article about guns, AND THEY ARE ACTUALLY CLIPS. I'm dying here! hahahahah!

Anyone else notice this?

"Note, Multiple long guns can be bought at one time so are counted as one purchase."

So the actual number of long guns sold is higher than they are reporting.

Adding the raw numbers up from 2003 to 2012, you get 4.3 million gun sales in 10 years, roughly evenly split between long guns and handguns.

This is a bit over one gun for every 10 people and does not count guns purchased before 2003. There are a lot of guns in CA...

Look here citizen, there is an increase in gun purchases despite the fact that crime rates are falling. The two are not related in any way. We will let you know when your opinion should change.

In all seriousness, it is amusing but very sad that they are ptraying it in exactly that light. "Why do you need more guns? Crime is down." Tards...

I was there this past Tuesday and there was a video interview going on. I saw the camera when I went in, but it wasn't running. I think it was running when I was looking at mosin nagants and shotguns on the rack though, so maybe my fat head was caught on tape since the rack was behind the interview.

No idea what media outlet it was for.

"California is one of just a few states that ban high-capacity magazines and the sale of military assault weapons like one used in Colorado."

Check out all those "Military Assult Weapons" in the background:

I bought thirteen firearms this year, a new record for me. I felt compelled to buy them mostly due to upcoming elections, SCOTUS replacements in the next term, long gun reg for 2014, etc. The government, President Obama and the Socialists up in Sacramento were mostly responsible for my purchases.

That's nearly 4.5 million seperate sales over the last nine years, probably at least 5 million because I've put multiple guns on a DROS a few times, it's not uncommon.

And 5 million plus doesn't even count home made guns which are lots since AK build parties and 80% AR lowers have become quite popular. It might add more than 100,000 to that number.

After reading the article, it's hilarious when the antis claim that gun ownership is decreasing. They call it a "spike" when the trend is a steady increase over nine years.

I'm sure the reason for their claim is polling people and you can make a poll find almost anything by the way the questions are worded. That's why they are always pulling out stats about gun owners being ok with closing the "gun show loophole".

Here is a little trick I learned about how to tell if an anti is distorting the facts: their lips will move when they do that.

I don't see any military assault weapons. I see what are likely to be civilian centrefire non-removable magazine rifles.

Wash, just to emphasize your point -

If it's a short-term spike, it's not statistically significant. There could be a number of factors involved... What we know generally is that household firearms ownership across the country is going down... [derp]

The funny part is that this tracks only the DROS sales...C&R and (gasp!) hand-to-hand sales would put this through the roof.

There are quite a few guns in CA that do not go through DROS or are not recorded as sales even though they are DROSed.

•Multiple long gun purchases a single DROS (after the first). If someone buys 10 Nodak Spud AK receivers, they will be recorded as a single long gun sale, not 10 long guns.

•C&R long guns from out of state

•Long guns over 50 years old within CA

•Lots of AK build party AKs, both long guns and pistols

•80% AR builds, both long guns and pistols

•Other build party guns: 10/22, FALs, Uzis, 1919s and whatever else people are building...:D

I have often wondered if the likes of Yee, DeLeon and Mike Feuer, own guns. I guess we know Feinstein does or did, since she reputedly had that LTC way back when.

I'd love to see a pic of one of them stocking up on ammo someplace.

Since they count multiple long arm purchases as one if done at the same time and I don't think they are counting C&R purchases that don't go thru a FFL 01, I'm thinking they are way under counting.
