View Full Version : Is this a legal way to acquire an off roster handgun?

My sister and her husband are moving to Georgia. They bought a house there last month and have been moving their stuff slowly.
My brother in law purchased a Hi Point .45 last month but now he decided that he'd rather stuck to rifles. Even though he won't loose a lot if he just keep the gun, he's thinking about selling to buy another .22 rifle.
He still comes to California every 2 weeks and will do so until all his business is transferred to GA. He now has a Georgia license but he also has a CA id.
He offered to give me the gun but I don't think it would qualify as an inter family transfer even if it was my sister's.
My question is: can he bring the gun next time he comes and sell it to me as a PPT?

Maybe the real question is : What?

I know it is a Hi Point, but wouldn't mind spending $150 for a new pistol, specially a .45 that can't be sold here in CA

With CA ID he probably could 'get away with it' - the software won't reject the PPT.

Seems like a bad idea.
