For those not afraid of a little heat, :cool2:, August is Appleseed time again at Raahauge's in Corona!

If you are in the hunt for that elusive Rifleman patch, want to put some polish on your skills, or are looking for a solid introduction to the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, come on out.

This will be a 25m event with both rimfires and centerfires welcome.

If you have questions, post em up.

I'm going to attend one of these soon in Corona. Would it be disrespectful to others there if I used my AR (only rifle I own) with a muzzle break? The concussion to the sides is gnarly lol.

Thinking about getting a cheap .22 rifle for the training, but don't want to spend more money than I have to, I already have enough .223.

Dan000,

We have a shoot what you've got orientation, so don't let equipment keep you from coming out. We often have people with loud breaks on the line and can usually find a way to make it all work out fine.

Some food for thought. If you are thinking of buying a .22 anyway, the difference in ammo costs between shooting that or your AR for the weekend would likely just about pay for the .22 rifle. The skills you learn at Appleseed will easily transfer to your AR (or any rifle) even if you hone them on the .22, for a fraction of the cost.

All the best,
Robert

Wombat,

Next shoot in SD will be at Dulzura, Sep 29-30, then Rainbow, CA - Oct 6-7. Rainbow in particular tends to sell out early, so pre registration would be the way to go if you want to attend that one.

You can find the full appleseed schedule and registration page here: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_schedule2.php

Tips about preparation and what to bring are here: http://appleseedinfo.org/as_prepare.html

Enjoy!

Yugo,

Any of those choices would work, though the bolties are more challenging to master because you have to break position to work the bolt between shots. Overall, I would say you would probably be happiest (especially in the wallet) shooting your .22 conversion AR. Appleseeds tend to bring out any equipment issues present so give it a full checkout and zero at 25m if you can ahead of time. Also you could bring another of your rifles as a backup.

Bob7122,

We don't rent any equipment, but given enough notice, we can often arrange for loaner rifles. If you decide that you would like to sign up for this event, PM me to discuss this.

Just a suggestio. How about doing an Appleseed at Angeles Shooting Range.

RuggedJay,

I know that we have events there from time to time, but I don't see any on the schedule for the rest of this year. Piru or Sunland would probably be closest if you are near Angeles.

You can check the schedule here: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_schedule2.php

FYI The Angeles Shooting Range is listed as "Sunland" on the Appleseed Forum and Eventbrite Scheduling systems. In Appleseed shoots are named after the nearest town/city not the range name.

We shoot on the Eagles Nest private ranges not the public ranges at Angeles, next one is Aug 25/26 info (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=26665.0) and then Oct 6/7. Info and registration links for all california shoots are always available here (http://www.appleseedinfo.org/search-states.php?filter=CA&statename=California)

With a little less than 24 hours left to register for the shoot we have 13 signed up! Still plenty of room if any one else wants to join the party.

Mother nature has also given us a slight reprieve this weekend. The weatherman says Saturday should be only 99 and Sunday 97, hot to be sure, but after 2 weeks of triple digits, I'll take it.

To all who joined in the effort to defeat SB 249, well done! It is off calendar for the year.

See you on range,
Robert

I'm registered for the 9/15 - 9/16 event at Rauhaages in Corona. I only elected to attend Sat but see that the event runs both days. If I only attend one day, can I still earn a patch?

Thanks to all who came out to shoot with us in the August sun, thanks for being safe and hope to see you all again along the trail.

All the best,

Nate,

No problem, if you shoot the score on Saturday, you have earned the patch. Look forward to seeing you there.
