Has anybody heard of this or know how it works? If so is it legal and have you done it? Thanks

I think that I know what you are talking about. Trot line fishing is what we referred to it back in OK while fishing in Lake Texoma. It consisted of using an empty gallon of milk and twine with a series of baited hooks. Yes, it works well but I believe that it is illegal in CA.

BTW we caught some huge cats that way.

Definitely not a legal method of take in California.

You can do it, with just a couple hooks though, lol.

I think 2-3 is max hooks per rig?

Ragweed, trotlines are where you string a line with many hooks between two jugs or a jug and a tree.

A jugline is an empty milk jug with a single line with a sinker on the bottom. You can put 1 - 2 hooks on the line at different depths. Throw them out for the night and check in the morning.

Being an Okie originally I've fished every lake in OK and used lots of jug and trotlines for catfish. Unfortunately I do not know the legality of it in CA or any other state.

Not sure if it legal in Commiefornia but I've seen it done on a few lakes in northern california and it was really effective on big channel cats.

Ya, I read something in the regulation book that 25 feet or there abouts is the distance you can be away from your line.

You can use a jug as a bobber if you keep control of the line going from the jug to the shore.
